In reply to Bobzilla:
For my area we still aren't to the Blizzard of '78 levels....and to be honest, that picture comparing is a bit flawed, as you can tell '78 had actually filled in the road substantially, and in the 2014 pics it isn't.
'78 yielded some photos of my dad & uncles stepping over power lines on top of snow drifts up here.

I am a product of the Blizzard of 78 according to family lore.

OK, so if we close the border, you guys take Walmart back?

He was referring to a tough Australian, not you.

No, no no, keep that as compensation for losing us. In fact you can have all the Walmarts we have as well, just to show, you know, no bad feelings
In movies, don't the aliens try to change our atmosphere to suit them before they invade? Is Canada planning an invasion? Are they brining Molson?

As long as we keep Bare NAked Ladies and you get Bieber, Celine and Bryan Adams.

I've lived here for each and every one of my 43 years on this planet. And I want out. Call me a Bob Costas if you want, but this weather is for the birds.
Humans should not live this far north.

Hence why the Bradenton, FL area is filled with people who used to live in Indiana.....
I don't really mind it, as its just an annoyance. Granted, with my LP tank sitting at 30% while we are in a shortage, well.....things might get interesting.
Thankfully we have 2000gal of LP sitting in our farm tanks as an emergency backup for all three homes, its still worrysome.

That's how the Old Man paid for me. He never shut the 78 Dodge plow truck off for 2 straight months.

We are going skiing in Quebec next week. Winter is to be enjoyed.
No problem closing the border. We will turn off the oil and NG pipelines too. You will probably reopen it shortly after that.

He was referring to a stupid Australian, not you.
Fixed that for you, bitch...

I always say to people if you don't like where you live move, well in 20 years this is the first time I haven't liked being in Michigan.
The past 20 years have been unusually warm. This weather is closer to the historical trends, though a bit snowier.
Still not as bad as jan '03. -20 f was the norm, and it stayed -f for 2 weeks strait. We had to run the snow blower every few days. The fun part was that was when my sister and her family moved up from Arizona.
That said, I lived in Virginia Beach until I was 12 and winter there was 40 and rain. That was nice.

Your in laws must have lost some of their memory.
In 1969/70 it as very cold. The month of January 1970 it never went above zero the whole month.
that was in upstate New York, Midwest may have been different.
I particularly remember it as I ran a small repair shop across the street from a hotel. Starting cars etc. was very lucrative.
It's probably colored memory. At least, personally, the older I get the less I tolerate cold. I remember twenty years ago going for a bike ride for a couple hours when it was -4 F. -4F feels a hell of a lot colder now than it did back then.
Your recollection reminds me that the first two ZL1 Camaros ever built had to be pulled off of the transporter with a tow truck because it was too cold for them to start when delivered to the dealership on New Year's Eve... but that may have been the previous year.
Just imagine a car produced in 2014 having to be towed because it was too cold to start, brand-new!

Ft. Lauderdale FL- 73*, sunny. When I left Ohio in '76, it was -10 with 4 feet accumulation on the ground. That was a bad winter.
I remember when I was a kid 40 years ago, we had so much snow, the snow banks were taller than me. Of course, I was 3' tall at the time. I can also remember walking through the park in January, in the rain, and the outdoor rinks were long gone.
Nonetheless, if you close the border, how is Bobzilla going to ship to Canada?
