Light beer and "The Works" Clamato juice in a 4 to 1 ratio.  All the benefits of Gatorade, plus the benefit of a bit of alcohol to take the edge off.

Nothing better after a hot days work.

Oh, and I know we've got Margaritas covered and everyone knows Mai Tais, but some friends introduced me to Painkillers a couple of years ago. One of my favorite silly tropical drinks...

  • 2 oz of Rum. (traditional seems to be Pusser's, but I just use whatever's handy, tending toward dark)
  • 4 oz of pineapple juice.
  • 1 oz of cream of coconut.
  • 1 oz orange juice.
  • Top with fresh grated nutmeg to taste.

I'd swear that the last recipe I had was closer on amounts of pineapple and orange, but... Anyhow, it should all be well mixed, and as weird as the nutmeg sounds, it's important.

I will be having these tonight. They are good.

Despite what the wine bottle label will tell you, this has always been the correct recipe for Sangria. The E36 M3 in the bottle is just wine.

I completely forgot one of my favorite summer beers. blush

This is sorta unfair, because they are a local brewery just south of Boston, MA, and distribution is limited, but whatevs:

Barrel House Z: Sunny & 79 Degrees.

All the beers these guys make have some sort of hard liquor used in the brewing process. Sounds weird, but it's all amazing. This one is my favorite of all, and is a "ginned" pilsner. They are tasty as anything, and not too heavy. If you find yourself near Boston, look these guys up.

My summer "go to" other than beer has always been a gin and tonic.

Lately I've been very much enjoying a simple lemonade and vodka. Dangerous, though, Very dangerous.

OH

There's a brewery in Hershey that makes good beer. I like their double bock.

But they have a summer beer that I think is good even though I'm normally eh on ipas.

It's got hibiscus in it. They have a mango one that's supposed to be for spring but since I really like mango I want to try the hell out of it.

I’ll have to keep a watch for that one.  Troegs is a solid brewery !!

They have a store locater on their site to see if anywhere local to you carries it. It should be out in stores by now I think but I'm not sure when they start sending out the summer stuff.

Sounds good, I'll have to try that.  I've done my own hard cider basically by dumping yeast into a gallon jug off apple cider and airlocking it for a couple weeks.  Comes out pretty well.

The wife has a batch of dandelion wine and some lilac wine aging in the cellar.  Will be interesting to try in in a few months.

oh man, i've heard good things about dandelion wine, i have yet to try some though.  Let me know how it turns out!

If you want to try skeeter pee without all the additives, this is my recipe:

2 liters lemon juice (that stuff that comes in the lemon shaped containers)

7 lbs of sugar

250ml of white grape juice

add water to total 17.5 liters of liquid

1 packet red star bread yeast when it's cooled to room temp.

I've ran the recipe a couple times and get near 7% (+/-2%) almost every time.  The bread yeast isn't terribly consistent but then again you don't need potassium sorbate either.  The yeast tends to die before it ferments dry so if you want it sweeter you can add more sugar on the front end wink

Spent the day mowing and doing yardwork in prep for tomorrow's Father's Day cookout.

Right now, Lime Ricky's are the cure. Very refreshing.

2 oz gin

2 oz vodka

Top with club soda and a lime wedge.

Rinse and repeat as needed. (I'm on #4)
