Do I have to order the whole assembly?  Can I just rivet the new piece to it?

If you don't have ID on the old one, you're better off getting the whole shebang.  Amazon has them between $15 and $60.

As 914 said, just order the whole assembly.  When mine broke, I just took a couple pictures of it to my local rv place, and they ordered the right one for me.

That looks like a standard 14" Hehr style RV dome. Bought by Camco a long time ago. Super simple.

Get on Amazon and search for "Universal 14 inch rv dome replacement"

You'll get thousands of results.  They break all the time on RVs, so it's easier than finding the right gas cap or windshield wiper.  I order new ones every 4-5 years because my RV stays outside in Canadian winters.  The UV makes them brittle, and I don't want to show up one year to find a fallen twig has caused my RV to be full of water.

I kept having to replace mine every other year due to UV weakening of the plastic, so I replaced with a metal one.
