Today is the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War. Yesterday they must have been practicing because at 6:30 this morning the cannons started firing. One set at Ft Sumter, one set at Battery White in downtown Charleston. Ft. Sumter is a little over a mile from my house and Battery White is maybe two. I now know what it sounds like to live in a war zone. From 6:30 until I left for work at 7:45 they must have fired 100 times. Ever since I got home at 6:00 pm they have been shooting ten to fifteen rounds every fifteen minutes. Unbelievably cool.

It's driving the wife nuts though.

All in all a cool week to be in Charleston. The Thunderbirds were in town this weekend for the AFB Air Show. My office is right off the end of one of the runways so I got to watch them practice off and on all week.

I'm on the wrong side of town- I didn't hear any of the cannon fire, even from downtown.

They may have also had some set up at Ft Moultrie which is less than a mile from me. The were a couple yesterday and this morning that made the windows rattle.

THATS why I kept hearing booming the other day. I was in Elizabethtown, KY at a car lot during a thunderstorm, and I kept hearig a boom and for a while dismissed it as thunder, until I realized I never heard an echo. E-town is very close to Fort Knox, and I suppose they had some live fire or demostrations of some sort because of the Civil War anniversary.

BOOOM!
