The other night I dreamt I was wading chest-deep through a flooded street.  Two large alligators were pacing me and closing in.  No matter what I did they were getting closer and going to get me before I reached safety.  It seemed like the dream lasted forever and just when they were about to attack, I woke up.   It took hours for me to calm my sense of panic.

I once dreamed that I was painting parts in my living room. My wife was mad because I was getting overspray on the curtains.

Now here's the weird one.

I was never a religious or spiritual person. Don't believe on ghosts or angels or anything like that.

My mom was in the hospital, losing a fight with cancer.

I had the most vivid and clear dream of my life in the early morning of Dec 24, 2014. I dreamed that my mom was there and she said "don't worry, everything will be ok."

At 5am, the hospital called to tell me that she had died in her sleep.

I have no explanation for it, not a thing. Nothing like that has happened before or since. It still feels really strange thinking about it.

re: Mother.  I had a similar situation when my mom committed suicide.

Years after my Father passed away I dreamt that we were up to some motorcycle shenanigans.  Dirt biking down a riverbed and trail area, together, on a Goldwing.   Both just super happy and excited for life, probably drinking involved.

I'm trying to figure out whether this thread is responsible for the dream. I don't usually remember much of my dreams, and while some are conventionally dreamlike, I also have a lot of "I'm concerned about MIG torch angle" dreams because I'm working on something IRL.

Then there's last night.

We listened to a bit of the Smith and Sniff podcast last thing before bed to try to drown out the asshats still setting off fireworks on the Monday after Independence Day for our dog (to not much avail).

Hours later... I dreamed I was walking through a twilit neighborhood, and Jonny Smith and Richard Porter were... somewhere. Either nearby, or just kind of having their own conversation in the ether. Something about how "is there anything more hardcore than the drummer from Dentistry?"

Anyhow, was walking toward what I guess was my house, and I was a little twitchy about... whatever dangers. There was someone on the porch so I redirected toward the garage, which was suddenly open and went into the house that way where I had that sort of inescapable collision course that didn't involve an actual fight or attack but that dreamlike sense of being about to be "gotten," whatever that means. And I realized the inescapable figure on a bike in the living room was famous cycling coach of the '80s, Jim Ochowicz. Not that I could pick him out of a lineup or that this figure actually looked like him, it just was him. You know, dreams.

I woke up mumble-blurting "Ochowicz!"

This thread made me remember my early days working for an engineering firm and the Technicolor dreams that job gave me for years after.  Not fun!!!

I rarely have dreams these days. I only seem to have them when life is stressful. Something at work or in my personal life. For me when I have one or two in success nights I have learned it is a sign telling me to fix deal with what is causing the stress. You can not always fix everything but usually the act of addressing the problem as much as I can makes the dreams go away.

Another weird thing is when I am on vacation I don't dream. I have wondered if it is the bed or me just being relaxed.

To build on what Dean says, how many people on the board never dream?   I can't remember the last time I had a dream, but I know that it was before I was a teen, so, 30ish years ago?

Actually, that is interesting as my hearing is not the best anymore.  As my hearing has declined so has the number of dreams.

I certainly don't miss the nightly almost-nightmare I had through most of my 20's. I was blind, paralyzed, couldn't speak, floating in black space, listening to a very authoritative, Cronkite-like voice, that was speaking English, but it was *total* gibberish. But it was Very Important that I Pay Attention Very Carefully to every shred of the ridiculous word salad. Every freaking night.... yeah it got rly, rly old...

Last night I had a dream that Mrs. Hungary was off at a luncheon with a Turkish/middle eastern/Egyptian man (someone from that area of the world).  And I found out she ate cat.

1) Mrs.Hungary is an ethical vegetarian.

2) We love cats

Things I remember were how nonchalant she was about the whole thing, and where in the heck did you find enough meat to eat on a cat???

Went to Disney with the ex wife. Walking to the metal detector I realized I had my gun in my pocket "we gotta go back to the car."

This *enrages* her.

She gets in the car and is going to drive it into the gate. I'm hanging onto the side convincing her that we will be banned from Disney.

She parks eventually and we walk up. I see a retention pond area and wander over.

Pond is set deep in a hole with a stone fence around half it, pond is like 30 feet straight down, looks halfway like an animal enclosure at a zoo.

I point out gators down below in the pond and a few people join us to watch.

Gators start attacking the ducks on the pond and more people join us.

A very VERY pregnant lady sits on the edge of the stone wall, scoots too the edge, and then pushes herself off the edge into the gator pond where the gators are actively fighting duckswho is gonna eat the ducks.

I see them lunge at her as she surfaces and nope out of there. Find a park employee and try to tell them what is happening.

"Oh no sir, you must be mistaken. She cant have done that, its not allowed."

And I just stare at him.

I'm on a dock with an adjacent deck at water level.   My infant daughter is under the deck and under water, I say "it's fine I have her on this fishing pole"  as I reel it out of the water what I have is a snagged fish, in the back.   At this point I jump through a hole in the deck, scoop up the girl and set her on the deck.   She shows no emotion, just sits on the deck as if nothing happened.

This similar scenario happened to me as a toddler.  I just walked into a pool, Mom froze, and couldn't move, Dad jumped in and pushed me out of the water.  I remember seeing the ladder and reaching for it then magically shooting out of the water.

Had a dream where I pulled a fish's face off.

Was with a small group of friends on one of their boats, moving slowly up a brackish river. I tossed a line in to troll as we were going upriver. Felt a bite, let the reel freespool for a bit, then set the hook. Had a little bit of fight, but then the line went loose like I had lost the fish. I reeled in the line and there was a fish face, eyes, gills, and about a third of the body on the left side.

I have not been able to sleep recently. That means when I finally do fall asleep = weird dreams.

Last night was one of those typical, "WTF is going on???" dreams.  Wandering through a city with a group. Ended up separated. I ended up in the back rooms of what seems like a South East Asia area with all sorts of indescribable shops.  Found each other... running from something... Woke up this morning extremely tired.  And I didn't even drink anything with dinner last night, so I had hopes for a restful night...

Between not being able to sleep and work stress, I am so berking tired...

I routinely have weird dreams and almost always enjoy them. This one was odd because it involved other people. Most of my dreams involve me in strange situations by myself.

In this one, 35yr old me was at my 55yr old dad's place. We left, walking, as he showed me a pic of a car. It was of a vintage Alfa Giulia, which I told him, but when I looked back it was actually two vintage Italian motorcycles.

As we walked down the country road two transport trucks approached at high speed, side by side. I jumped in to the bushes afraid of being hit, but at the last second one tucked in behind the other. It was at that point that I noticed the guy on the motorcycle doing what appeared to be some kind of stunt. He wasn't wearing a helmet and that was what made me realize they were filming a movie.

As we walked back, but across the road and in the field, we met up with a young woman, probably early 20's. She was there working on the movie, and I noted that her looks were not what one would call typical beauty, but was nonetheless very much my style.  We spoke for a few moments and she told me she was from up north, had never been in this area, but liked it so much she was considering a move here. We were clearly hitting it off and discussed going in to town to get a motel room. I told her I didn't think it was such a good idea, but not why, which was because I didn't want to spend the money. I know women don't like to hear that, but she must have picked up on it and agreed to pay. I wondered why we were getting a room because she was in town working and probably already had one, but I let it go.

The motel was open concept, and as we sat on the bed talking, workers would pass by as they carried out their duties. At one point I noticed that her underwear was straight out of the 50's and she was wearing pantyhose. I wanted to kiss her but it was awkward and she let me kiss her on the cheek. We both smiled, got ready to leave, and the vision of us walking in to McDonald's came to mind. As she came down the stairs in the motel, she passed me a bunch of spoons, which I placed with all the other spoons on the table.

I left first and got in my truck. As she got closer to the truck I realized I could hear what she was thinking, and she was really concerned that she might have cancer. I asked her about the cancer, which she denied, but I wondered why she didn't ask how I knew that.

At that point I woke up and immediately thought, I should start looking for a new trials bike.

I dreamed there were four of us in a friend's car driving somewhere.  I was in the back seat and there was a pony in the back seat as well standing on the floor looking out the window.  It suddenly had uncontrollable projectile diarrhea.  Like up to our ankles in liquid horse poop.

Last night, I dreamed that my wife, our youngest, and I were out of town in Michigan, I think.  For some reason, we decided to go into a store and bought pot.  Not being a pot guy, this manifested itself in my dream as a red, orange, and green glowing pinecone-looking thing about the size of a shift knob.  As we were driving, one of us took it out of the package and set it on the gauge cluster of the car.  Right after that, a cop put his lights on to pull us over.  I knocked the whatever-thing I had dreamed up onto the floorboard and kicked it under my seat.  The cop was more of a detective type, not wearing a patrol uniform and older.  I can't remember exactly how it transpired, but he was being pretty friendly and everything but he kept asking all sorts of questions.  Eventually, he said that he wanted to sit in the car with me while I drove and so he climbed in and my wife got into her car and we drove off with the cop and I following my wife.  I have no idea how that was supposed to happen because we were driving my wife's car, he left his police car behind, and my wife was in front of us also driving her car.  We were driving for a while and I kept trying to tell him that we had some place to be at a certain time and I kept wanting to turn around and take him back to his car.  I can't remember his rationale for wanting me to drive him and I can't remember what he was asking me as we drove, but I remember having this feeling like the protagonist of The Tell-Tale Heart with this pot pine cone under my seat.  He remained very casual and nice as we drove until we approached a railroad crossing.  As my wife went across it ahead of us, I started begging him to tell me when we could turn around and his demeanor changed, he got very brash, and said "In just a minute...  just a minute..." and the railroad crossing lights started flashing and the bars came down.  He started yelling at me that now it was time to stop and that he had me now.  And that's when I woke up.

Weird.

Had a bunch of weird dreams last night–or maybe it was all part of the same one.

Things I remember:

Coming across some product that was billed as only containing 5% roach poop. For extra, you could get it without any roach poop.

Semi trucks speeding down my road, but my road was hillier that it is IRL.

Someone wearing a fancy Nomex suit. I can’t recall the details, but I think it looked like a business suit but was made of Nomex.

Much longer than the parts I remember, but...  Afriend had tickets to show, and we had to go by an industrial park to get another guy, who happened to be Dweezil Zappa.  Then, footwear required water resistance, so I tied plastic "Roberto Patrese" bags over my shoes.

OK.

Background:  a little less than a year ago, one of my friends passed unexpectedly.  He was my age, so 40 +/- 1 year.

I, traditionally, do ok with death.  My first memory is at my grandmother's wake.  I thought I was doing well with his death, but after this I suspect maybe not.

One of the first coherent thoughts I had after the dream was "that was neither nice, nor fair."

‐-------

I had become unmoored in time. I'm wandering around bemused.  Helping random people where I can.

Someone hands me a letter and its from Brian

He's not gone, he's also lost in time, and he's trying to leave me breadcrumbs so I can find him.

-----------

And then my alarm went off. And I berkeleying lost it for a bit.

Tangent: no clue why people say you cant read in dreams.  Ive always been able to.  It slips away quicker than anything else, but I remember it clearly.
