Look up the OEM number and start searching. You can also email the appliance part-out dicks on ebay and see if they can get you a top, but shipping may be expensive.

Before you deep 6 this item, pull out all the controllers and circuitry. You can look up all the high dollar parts online, pull them out, and list them for less than all other auctions for the same part with free shipping on Ebay with a 30 day buy it now. In 30 days you will be pleasantly surprised how all the stuff is gone.

I had the exact same scenario with a washing machine and did as described and it worked out way better than I could have imagined.

Sounds like you need a donor stove for your project stove. This is GRM, after all.

Don't forget the fender flares.

I hate to throw it out as much as I hate to spend more money on it. I can order a #4 brushed finished stainless sheet to make a new top, for about $50. It would be the the same finish as the front. I'll probably end up going that route.

Now that I see it, I'd totally do the rolled stainless for that critter.

Agreed. Is the stove meant for an island installation? My ex- had to get one for her house. Wasn't cheap.

It's a slide in that installs in the counter, rather than a freestanding range.

Where did the glass break? Like in the middle between the burners or something?

It's broken on the left edge. It's pretty noticeable unfortunately.

Yeah, I'm not seeing how adding anything to the top would improve the appearance. It actually looks pretty legit as it is. What's it supposed to look like?

Meh, wouldn't bother me. As long as it doesn't leak gas I would keep right on using it. That spot is where the spoon rest would go.

Ooohhh... Okay, I get it. I thought that first picture was without the glass part. Other Kenmores that I've seen have a bevel kind of thing to smooth out the line between the front panel and the tops of the grates and I thought that this one's was the broken glass bit.

I'd do a steel panel and paint it gloss black. Easier to clean kitchen goo off of that than most of those brushed metal finishes.

Did it, or will it, spread? If not, how about some kind of cap for each side? Something adhesive maybe?

Duct tape, but don't cheap out, get the good stuff.

Yep - "slide in" - that's what I meant. OK - not as likely to find for $200 again. I change my vote to "fix" now. The Electrolux my ex- bought was almost $2000 - on sale. Made even more painful because the very nice Bosch free-standing stove she had was only a few years old.

So I did.

"Berk." She said... and then went shopping for a slide-in stove. While I lowered the counter to a more usable height...

40' of gas line installed, tested for leaks, and hooked up.

My 13yo son took care of getting it run under the house. I love having smart kids.

We even finished in time to cook lunch.

The "spark module" I ordered showed up. Unfortunately, the particular part they shipped looked a lot like a handle for an appliance I don't even own. The shipper didn't even bother to send the correct part number.

As a bonus, sometime during the install, the old one started working again.

Now I'm going to need to change the backsplash to stainless.

SWMBO kept VERY quiet when he broke it. The fact that he literally said, "I need to be careful when tightening this so it doesn't break" SNAP! ... meant that my mouth needed to stay quiet at that moment in time. At least "I" didn't break it.

You are officially thanked for your brilliant idea.

I was able to find a ready made piece of trim that will cap both sides perfectly with little modification. The dimensions will line up with the silver trim caps on the edge of the control panel and continue that line to the back of the stove.

Total cost, under $40.

I'll throw up a picture when it comes in and I install them.

That looks fabulous and matches the microwave pretty well.

It managed to cook tonight's dinner successfully.

The gas is going to take some getting use to.

The convection oven is the bomb. This might be the best looking ham I've ever cooked. Very tasty too.

My biggest concern is the sheer amount of heat the gas stove top dumps into the room. Not much of a problem when it's cold, but this summer it will be a issue. My oven vent isn't vented to the outside. I might be running some duct work.
