I have a relative and two friends that have schizophrenia. I have never heard mention of a cure that works. Aside from my cousin a friend is probably going to need to be committed as he's getting two difficult for his mother to control. He's about the age my cousin was when he was locked up. I don't know how much is a progression of the illness and how much is their parents being too old to handle them but I would imagine if it could be cured they'd be trying it.

Friend of mine's son is schizophrenic. Usually, if he stays on his meds, he is pretty good. Last time he went off his meds though, my friend and his wife came home from vacation to find an empty garage, his son's car sold, his car sold, and their son nowhere to be found.

He eventually got picked up a couple of months later after a very long drug binge fueled by all the cash from selling my friend's tools, car, and the son's car.

I saw a piece on children with schizophrenia. It was a combination very sad and very scary. Hearing a little girl talking about how the voices want her to kill, and the parents that wonder if they will wake up one night with her standing over them...
