Honeymoon planning time. Where would you go in November? Must be on water, must be warm, and it must be in the continental US, or else the Caribbean. Don't want to take the plane ride to HI.

I have literally been to one place tropical, and that was Tampa. So I have no idea what the best places are. I don't want to hear city noise, I don't want to deal with traffic. I'd like it to be somewhat secluded (i.e. not like Clearwater beach with a million people there), but I'd also like it to have some activities--ideally we'd be able to take a day and go deep sea fishing, go snorkeling, and maybe a couple of nature hike type deals.

But mostly I want to sit on a beach next to my sexy new wifey, drink some frosty beverages, eat some good food, and not do too much else.

This. Florida in November is gorgeous. Fly into Ft. Lauderdale or Miami and drive down to one of the less popular keys.

Sounds like most places in the Caribbean would do, if you rent a beach villa away from built-up areas. Otherwise city noise and traffic are the norm. Dominica sounds like the closest fit to what you want. It's a bit short on beaches (many of them are just jagged rocks), but there's very little traffic and plenty of nature touring to do.

Edit: Also low tourist-trap factor, but the locals WILL be vying for your sweet American grown-up money in areas that tourists usually visit

Inclusive Caribbean resort is the easy button here. For honeymoon purposes if you don't care about anything more than beach, drinks, bedroom the all things included island vacations (Jamaica is nice) that are constantly posted up on Groupon. Don't overthink it and don't try to do too much, just relax, tan, drink, and ........

Rent a house on USVI, that's what I did on my honeymoon and I am looking hard to go back.

Orange Creek Inn, Cat Island Bahamas, cheap if you fly in via Southwest to Nassau and myoutislands.com has a free airfare promotion from Nassau

airfare deal

best $84 a night ever spent

gallery of the area on cat island just around the Inn

pro-tip: snorkeling is awesome, get 2 sets of highly rated gear off amazon cheap before you go and take it along. I could paddle and snorkel down there every day and never grow tired of it.

My other option is Cuba. It will never be a better experience or more pure of one then if you were to go now.

Interesting, but don't want to deal with the family politics on both sides telling us how we're horrible people because communism.

In reply to mtn:

double irony for any family members who shop at wal-mart and purchase Chinese made items making said statement. My family is a bit different, they'd wonder why I'd take my new wife to Cuba when part of the reason to go is the low cost, high quality hookers!

Haha--my family that would have issue with it actively avoids WalMart, thankfully, and does try to buy made in either USA or a place with similar labor laws. Near impossible for a lot of things, like clothes, but they're at least not that hypocritical, if you could label them that at all.

To be fair, the Chinese are communist in name only. They're actually a VERY capitalist, faux-democratic oligarchy. They also happen to be very authoritarian. Apart from the communist name they're very much like Singapore really.

Cuba, on the other hand, is very close to actual soviet-style communism.

I'd go to Bancroft, ON for the Rally of the Tall Pines, but it doesn't meet ANY of your criteria, so I'm out . . . . .

Bahamas are nice... and if you stay away from Nassau, they are pretty cheap and people free. I am intending on spending all of next February (not this coming February) there

Bahamas, Florida and Puerto Rico will be cheap flights, with I think Florida being the cheapest. November is also down time for most of the Gulf Coast, as the snow birds typically don't migrate till after the holidays. When we went down over Thanksgiving we didn't spend more than $90 for a hotel, and the most expensive spot was the crappiest hotel in Port of the Islands. That being said, it was a cold snap that year with it nearly hitting the overnight low two days before Thanksgiving in St. Pete.

The nice thing about Florida is absolute comfort. While PR and Bahamas are still pretty much the states, tourists are still singled out for crimes, where as in Florida everybody looks like a tourist.

When I move back to the east coast I think Puerto Rico and Cuba will be top spots for adventure. I can handle a bit of risk in order to save substantially.

I can't wait to check out Rocky Point, Mexico on a long weekend.

We went to Tortolla in the BVI. It was totally different than the USVI. And was TOTALLY WICKED AWESOME!

That was 13 years ago and I'd go back in a heart beat.

Best "Couples" vacation ever. Flew into San Juan, jumped on a small plane to Culebra and spent a week there. Culebra is the antithesis of an "All Inclusive" but beautiful and laid back beyond belief. Don't bother packing more than a pair of shorts and a few toiletries. Crime is not an issue on Culebra. Relaxing into a coma might be.

On the way out spend a night and a day at the San Juan Beach-club hotel. Its boutique luxury is a great contrast to the small island and its right down the road from the airport. This will also let you scope out old San Juan.

Like I said about the Bahamas, stay away from Nassau. That port feeds off of the cruise ships and the innocent tourists that arrive on them. The further away from the "civilized" areas you get, the better the people are

Taking a slightly different approach, I loved the beauty, seclusion, and quiet of Big Sur. I stayed at a "motel" called Ragged Point Inn. Among the most expensive places I have ever stayed, I would go back in a heartbeat. The room's backdoor was a few steps away from the cliffside, a few hundred feet above the waves. You probably won't be catching much sun, though.
