I have never, not once, found anything that I was looking for using the onboard search function. Things that I know are there just don't show up, you just get 3-4 hits and that's all.
I have to use "site:grassrootsmotorsports <search term>" to find anything.
i have found hitting the 'more' button after the initial search gives you much more relevant results.
The initial search, nothing 3 wheeler related:

after hitting the 'more' button, much better results:

The developers are working to improve the search function on the site. I cannot tell you why it sucks, but know that we are aware that it needs improvement and are working on it.
Can't GRM just make a link that concatenates
"site:grassrootsmotorsports <search term>"
And passes it on to
googlebingyahoodogpilealtavista?

We could, but one thing we’ve been focusing on is moving away from quick reactionary fixes and towards real improvements and a long-term plan and timeline for each one.
The first major improvement we made was photo hosting, and there is more good stuff coming. Search is definitely on that list, and 2018 is going to be a good year.

I've had good luck searching through Google.
I've seen fasted58's work on mouse traps...
But message board search is one case where a quick band-aid would yield immediate improvement. Even if rolling your own GRM search that is better than Google is on the to-do list.
Regardless, I'll keep subscribing and enjoying the site.
