For me it is my brother in law. He's a contractor, does a lot of remodels so of course he ends up traveling all over and meeting everyone.
He was once offered a used ~15 year old Aston Martin at under half what the used market was going for because the clutch was bad. He did not take it.
Below are his most recent scores. He was in Tractor Supply buying an industrial pressure washer with a bad pump. Just next to it on the discount rack was a rebuilt pump for the same. No brainer, right? Manager asks him if he likes to fix stuff, he nods. "Wanna take a look at some scratch and dent stuff?" Again, he nods.
She leads him back to these, says "guy unloading them dropped them off the forks. Individually. He doesn't drive the forklift anymore. You interested?"
"Yeah, I am."
"What are you thinking for price?"
"800 for both."
"$1000 and its a deal."
"$1000 and you deliver and unload."
"Can deliver, can't unload."
"Deal."
The one on the right.
The one on the left.
Store brand air compressor, 60-gallon tank? Damage appears to be pretty minor. How much are these going for these days? Seems like mine was only 400-500 from H-D ten years ago.

Yes, I see. 3 cylinders, 17 CFM @ 90 psi, USA made. Very nice.
I got a similar deal from Lowe's many years ago. I bought a Devilbiss 80 gallon 175psi compressor with minor cosmetic damage for $400, brand new. I then had to figure out how to get it out of my pickup and into the basement and I didn't have a shop yet. I figured I would have that compressor forever, but my shop air use has lessened but my brother was restoring a 1959 Mack truck so I sold it to him. A big air compressor is an awesome tool.
I scored a $800 power vent water heater for $200 over a few dents. This was 12 years ago. Still working great.
Ill do you one better on the air compressor front.
Was on vacation at a resort and saw an Ingersoll Rand Garage Mate air compressor in a scrap metal dumpster. Bribed a few other vactioning bros with some beers to help me haul it out. Loaded it up and took it home.
Plugged it in....and it worked fine.
I rewired it because the wiring was a bit rough.
Total cost to me - $3 for 6 Busch Lights and some wire from the scrap bin at work.
Note to self: ask about scratch and dent. It will never hurt to politely ask because you always start at "no."
A Porsche 997 at Boxster prices....

All of you folks who get free-or-almost-free cars because you're the "car guy".
That never happens to me.

Neighbor gave me his old Volvo a few years ago when he moved. Ran fine.
I've got a large enough network now that people refer their friends to me, doesn't always work out, but it's low effort on my part.
Guy a few blocks away flips miatas. Always a very similar car, low mileage NA with a hardtop. He sells them for $13-15k. No idea how he constantly finds them, I keep meaning to drive over there and make friends with him, clearly he's got a system.
I just recently was offered a 98 BMW 328is for $1700. Was her drift car so it needs some mild body repairs and has a bunch of drift related goodies installed, came with a LOT of spare tires.
I am excited to learn how to drift when I get a few things sorted out on it.
