So, a local dealer has a 2004 Ducati Monster 620 with 15,000km on it for under $4000 (Canadian)

Yeah, it's only 60-ish hp but it's also only a little over 300lbs.

If I test ride the damn thing, I'll probably end up buying it.

Anyone on here got any real-wold experience with one?

Will it still be fun with my 260lb, 6' tall carcass on it?

The bike I'm riding now is a 64hp flying twin that weighs over 500lbs if that helps.

If the maintenance is up to date, and verifiable, I don't think that's a bad price. No records and I'd have to assume that the valves need to be adjusted. If you can't DIY, that can get pricey.

Plunk your own butt on the bike and see if you fit. None of us can actually tell you. I find them uncomfortable, doesn't mean you will.

Many many many many years ago I worked at a Ducati dealership, at the exact same time period that the Monsters were first being delivered, and I got to uncrate, assemble and test ride an M900 from the first batch in the US. I liked it.

The 2 valve air cooled desmos aren't particularly complicated. I left the dealership before any of them came back for repairs, so IDK, if they had any nasty maintenance surprises, but from my limited hands-on experience, I wouldn't be afraid of an air cooled Duc.

SWMBO's has been less than reliable. Pretty though.

I have an '05 Monster S2R 800. Not crazy under powered, but not going to win many races. It's a fun daily rider and is great in the city, but can be taken out for long crusies easily. A 620 may be on the tight side for you if you are 6'. I am 5'9" and my 800 can feel a little cramped on all day rides. The S2R 100, and S4R bikes all have more power and have adjustable rear sets which would be a huge benefit for a taller rider like you. I would say either way go ride it and see what you think. I never thought I would like a Monster until I test rode the one I bought, and now I don't think I will ever be Monssterless.

I had a Monster 750. It was a fun bike, similar power to the 620 with the FI if I remember correctly.

At the time I also has a super sport liter bike, and where we ride power (or lack of it) make a difference.

I sold it on and later got a S4 (916cc water cooled 4 valve) and then my current S4Rs (999cc).

Not sure what Monsters are doing price wise in the a Great White North, but $4k will get you a nice 900 or S2R and extra power is never a bad thing. Also will help with resale.

I fell in love with the Monster ever since they came out. I still think the first gen is the best looking, but I am warming up to the newer ones. I could have just about any bike, and with the slight temptation to a Speed Triple, I can't see being tempted away from the Monster. You can commute, tour and get your knee down all on one bike. What more do you need?
