I ended up buying this instead of borrowing my friend's F800ST.

Not yet.
My first bike, will commute and take some shorter rides for awhile.
I'd love to camp @ Big Bend and maybe go down Padre Island National Seashore and camp.

Oh that's excellent.
If you ever want to hook up and go for a ride let me know. I'm just up the road from you in Temple.
Absolutely.
I spent 100 miles on a Ducati Monster 620 lastnight/this morning. A friend just got his license and wasn't comfortable riding it back from SA to Round Rock. So I rode it from SA to my house last night and then into work, where my bike was.
It sounds like sex, really really good sex.
It was very uncomfortable for me though. He's a really short guy - so hopefully he'll be much more comfortable. In traffic this morning it was kinda fun being so much lighter than my bike.
Man, I got a smoking deal, bordering on a a steal.
It's an 01 R1150GS, 134K miles - but the original engine had a timing chain guide issue at 117k miles. So an pulled engine with 33k was installed by BMW dealer is Tuscon, along with new clutch and refreshed final drive (from a bike with 17k miles)
Seller had Wilburn dampers on it, but sold them to a guy with a bike with under 40k - his damper are on the bike now.
So I think she's going to be really solid for a really long time.
I hope to start moto-camping out west with her.

For sure, I wanted to be seen!

So you have a 33k motor, 17k FD and fresh clutch for dirt cheap? Nice! All the $$$ bits are good to go. Those Wilbers would probably have been too good to be true to be included but that would have been icing on the cake. 40k mi stock dampers might be starting to run out of rebound adjustability but you should be able to find low mileage take-offs pretty easily when you need them.
Where are you headed for the first trip?
Not only the that , but the temps too. When I last rode (SE Tex.) it was silver helmet and a silver reflective Fox street jacket. Great looking Bimmer enjoy....
Went on a 200 mile ride with a friend yesterday with some good BBQ in the middle, damn, I love this bike.
