Just picked up this project, 1990 Ducati 750 Sport.  The Ducati that no-one wants.  It was essentially a parts bin bike when Ducati was struggling in the late 80's and early 90's.  Only 400 imported to the US, of 1300ish produced between 1989 and 1990 worldwide.  The book value is incredibly low for these, even though they are rare now.  A perfect example is still only worth about 3K I think.  This one was high-sided into a guardrail and has sat in a shed since 1999, untouched.  has a nasty tank dent, cracked fairings, busted mirror and blinkers, and smashed handlebar switches.  Otherwise it seems mechanically sound.  It was supposedly driven home after the crash.  My plan for this year is to get it into running driving shape and use it for the season.  Then possibly give it a more thorough restoration once I work out any mechanical bugs.

Looks good in the photo.  If the fairing is just cracked and no pieces are missing, rather than replacing it you may be able to get it repaired by someone who does plastic welding.

I have some paperwork around here somewhere from a company that makes epoxy designed for fairing repair, among other things. That part should be a fairly easy fix. Bike looks in pretty nice shape considering. I like it. - Yeah, I found it! Stuff seems very easy to work with as long as you can spread bondo.

Going to keep the bodywork or go naked?  Ducati's usually have such pretty frames...

I totally agree, they just get some internet hate for being from the "bad years".  I was at the local dealer recently and mentioned this bike.  The salesman literally said "that's not REALLY a Ducati".  I plan on keeping the fairings.  My local body guy is pretty handy with fiberglass so I may see what he can do for the fairing.  It looks better in this picture than it really is.  It was wet from trailering it home, so the pic makes it look extra shiny.

Wierd thing about Duc people can be explained NOT by looking at this then the F1. F1s go for big money. Not a world of difference between them, but enough that one is highly desireable. Until the early 90s Ducs were just not a DD bike. Cool but not DD. My 916 and the monster has turned everything around and made Ducati what it is today. Just fix it and enjoy it and don't listen to anyone else.

No the unwanted Ducs were the mid 2000s 750 and 800 Supersports.  That cyclops headlight turned a lot of people off.

I was just thinking, "Take the plastic off, and see if it gets mistaken for a Monster."

You have that confused with the 999, the Ducati no one wants.

I thought the 999 was a good bike just much less nice to look at vs. the bikes it was intended to replace.  There's got to be some pretty framework going on with that bike as well.

You know, I was thinking about all the cool stuff I could do with an older Multistrada the other day, so you're not far off.

Cool bike, I'm interested in what you find when you start tearing into it and how well things have held up after sitting.

It really would look cool without fairings, but I'd like to save them none the less.
