Just buy the tool. Brake drum puller....

I am rebuilding a  fox body mustang rear end.  The drums were stuck, the brake shoes were pushed right up against the drum, or whatever.  I soaked, smacked with multiple hammers, beat it with a 2 x 4.  Nothing. Got out the torch, nothing.   I ponied up ~$30 for a puller on amazon.  Worked like a champ.  The shoes are so worn the rivets are showing.  

I always tell my kids to use the right tool for the right job.  I know the internet told me to smack it with hammers, but is that really the right tool?

Anyway, brake drum puller?  I'm a believer.

Got any pictures? I can't remember the last time I've seen one.

There's also a hydraulic version for when they're really stuck. 

I have the hydraulic version. It's no joke. 

Not sure this is for any car out side of Japanese cars but there are threaded holes that fit two M8x1.25 bolts in the face of the brake drum to assist in removal of the drum on most Japanese vehicles.

The older I get the more I learn this lesson again and again.  

Serpentine belts?  I stopped fighting them with box wrenches and bought the tool with adapter pieces for $60.  Love the right tool.
