So just picked up a new 4runner for the family mobile and was underneath it marveling at how squeaky clean new stuff is. The dealer wanted 900+ for a wax treatment which seemed nutty to me. I'm figuring I have a few weeks before the first white death falls to get something applied. Any secret tips of DIY perfection from the hive?
I use Fluid Film. Others use Waxoyl, some just mix kerosene with old motor oil.

I mix old candle parafin with petroleum jelly melt it and spray it with a crappy hand spray bottle. If the bottle clogs or the soft wax mix dries i drop it into a crock pot of hot water for a while.
When the car underbody is thoroughly saturated, i go over everything with heat gun.
This has completly stopped existing rust development and prevented new on our 95 camry. It doesnt stink like the used motor oil method so i can coat areas behind the interior panels.
I'd use something designed for the process. I had good experience with Waxoyl (both the underbody stuff and the cavity wax) in the UK, where they chuck tons of salt on the roads when it snows 100 miles away.
Keep in mind that the wax-based treatments are both messy to apply (park the car on a tarp before applying) and need to be renewed/touched up every few years.
Caveat - I don't know if the Waxoyl they're selling over here is exactly the same stuff they sell in the UK. I know that some UK companies (Autoglym for example) have to formulate their products specifically for the US.
ACF-50 or LPS 3 are generally my go to. Most of my tools were coated in LPS 3 before I stored them after leaving an airline position. They have no rust at all on them.
I also hear good stuff about Boeshield T-9. No experience with it but I love Boelube.
I've used ACF-50 on motorcycles that I rode through the winter in the UK. It works spectacularly well and at the same time makes your bike highly unattractive to thieves because it'll looks like a rat bike within a few minutes. Any sort of E36 M3 sticks to it really well.
