Although only originally built for a relatively short period of time, the Shelby Cobra proved to deliver a winning formula with its powerful American V8 and lightweight British body—a recipe that only grew in popularity in time. But production has continued since the 1960s. One updated offering: In 1982, the AC name and tooling were purchased, and a number of “new” Cobras were built.
Such is the case for this 1965 AC Cobra 289, which was built in the late ’90s. Specifically, the car was built as one of 25 FIA-sanctioned race cars.
Built using the same practices that would have been employed during original production, this 289 features an authentic AC aluminum body, leaf spring suspension and Weber-carbureted 289 Ford V8 paired with a Top-Loader four-speed transmission. It’s finished in Viking blue over a black interior, and you can find this 1965 AC Cobra 289 for sale over at Fantasy Junction for $249,500.
