Although the Alfa Romeo GTA looked similar to the more pedestrian GT from the outside, the Giulia Sprint GTA had a number of improvements to make it suitable for road racing. Namely, the 1600cc powerplant received an upgraded head and beefier carburetors, and the body panels were constructed of aluminum instead of steel. (The “A” in “GTA” stood for Alleggerita, the Italian word for lightened.)
This 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA is from the first year of production and seems to be relatively unmodified, save for a roll cage and exterior livery.
As well, photography associated with the listing shows what appears to be a spare engine block for the Alfa Romeo included in the sale.
This 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA is available through RM Sotheby’s upcoming Paris auction.
