There are numerous iconic racing machines produced by Lotus, though one of the most exemplary may be the Type 72. Specifically, the 72D was responsible for winning back-to-back Formula 1 championships in 1972 and 1973, of course finished in the John Player black and gold livery.
To celebrate the the 35th anniversary of those wins, Lotus built a run of 50 limited edition Lotus Elises. Called the Lotus Elise Type 72D, the cars were finished in black with gold wheels and pin striping, and a gold and tan-appointed interior.
This 2007 Lotus Elise Type 72D is number 14 of the 50 built worldwide and is reported to only have 21,500 miles on the odometer.
Powered by the same Toyota-sourced, four-cylinder engine found in the normal Elise, this Type 72D is also equipped with both the sport and touring packages.
Also included in the sale is a certificate of authenticity and a unique Type 72D open-face helmet, as well as the factory tool kit and owner’s manual.
