Back in the 1980s, Renault built the bonkers Group B R5 Maxi Turbo for WRC rally racing. The only problem? Homologation rules meant it needed to sell road-going copies in order to race. So it did, building 200 examples, like this 1985 Renault R5 Turbo 2 Type 8221—No. 120 of 200.
The Type 8221 came with some factory goodies, like a bigger, 1.4-liter turbocharged inline 4 (the base engine was stroked by 35cc to modify it for more power) and an aluminum roof. Compared to the earlier Turbo 1, the Turbo 2 made do with the spartan interior of a more pedestrian R5. Find this Type 8221 R5 on Bring a Trailer with bidding at $58,500 and six days left.
