Bill Akin may be best remembered as a historian and enthusiast, responsible for restoring a number of vintage Indy cars for future generations to enjoy. And now you can enjoy his unique collection of restored Indy cars at RM Sotheby's upcoming Auburn Fall 2020 sale.
Headlining the Bill Akin collection are three reportedly authentic, restored Indy cars: a 1960 Epperly Indianapolis piloted by Lloyd Ruby at the 1961 Indy 500, a 1953 Kurtis 500 B Indianapolis driven by Jimmy Davies at the 1953 and 1955 Indy 500s, and a 1961 Epperly Indianapolis raced by Bobby Marshman at the 1962 Indy 500.
Also included in the collection are complete Offenhauser engines as well as various original and reproduction spares, such as turbochargers, brake calipers, crankshafts, wheels and more.
RM Sotheby's is also offering a few classic street cars—said to be from Bill Akin's personal collection—ranging from a 1965 Dodge Dart GT Coupe to a 1990 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur II.
