In the early 1950s, it was commonplace to see American soldiers returning home after the war behind the wheel of MGs, Triumphs, Jaguars and even Alfa Romeos. To cash in on this market, head of design Harley Earl convinced GM that they needed to make their own sports car, with development starting in 1951.
Fast forward to 1953, and Chevrolet was debuting its new flagship sports car, the Corvette. Although the modern Corvette is associated with a V8 engine, the earliest generations of the car were powered by an inline-six powerplant.
This 1954 Chevrolet Corvette is one of those earlier models, finished in white over red and powered by a 235-cubic-inch inline-six.
The Corvette is said to be the result of a “$60,000 older body off restoration,” that included a rebuild of the engine and transmission, as well as a new interior, according to the car’s “1996 Scottsdale auction information.”
Said to have 41,973 miles currently on the odometer, you can find this 1954 Chevrolet Corvette for sale from Mosing Motorcars for $74,999.
