Concours d’Lemons: Is this truly the people’s concours?

Photography by Chris Tropea

Now that Concours d’Lemons officially falls under the Hagerty umbrella, it joined the greens at this weekend’s The Amelia, sharing space on Saturday with Radwood. Together, the two affairs reminded guests that a show field doesn’t always have to take itself so seriously–or that participation doesn’t have to require the deepest pockets.

What is the Conocurs d’Lemons? Think of it this way: terrific example of sketchy cars or sketchy examples of terrific cars. The photos, of course, explain all. Something common no matter the car, though: lots of smiles.

Is Concours d'Lemons just another Iola, Carlisle car show without the swap meet?  Are the car involved still Concours type vehicles (cleaned with Q-tips, rubbed with Diapers, never driven only trailered) just not the usual qualification for judging? I have read about them in GRM but never had the opportunity to attend.

Lemons attracts a mix: great examples of "meh" cars and "meh" examples of great cars. So you might find a perfect, perfect (insert "meh" car here) or a truly clapped-out example of something that would tradtionally wow the crowd.

The event doesn't take itself too seriously, though. That's probably a common denominator. It's fun.
