The 2021 Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance—set for November 7, 2021,—named Lilly Pray as its newest honorary judge.
Pray, a registered nurse specializing in emergency, orthopedics and neurology, has served as a concours judge for 19 years.
To get to know her better, Hilton Head organizers sat down and interviewed her:
Q: What was your first car?
A: My first car as a licensed driver was a 1973 Audi diesel which was a startling 0-60 in three days. It was our family car, and I was thrilled to be on the road. I started driving when I was 10 in our 1968 Dune Buggy in the back field of our property. My dad was so very proud to have taught four children and five grandchildren to drive in that very car, in the same yard, over the course of 40 years. We still have the Dune Buggy in the Malcolm Pray Achievement Center.
Q: What was/is your favorite car you've owned?
A: I’ve owned a 1959 Porsche Convertible D since 1996. “Alfred” is a durable driver that has given me many miles and smiles.
Q: What is your favorite judging experience?
A: For many years, I was on the judging team of English Cars with Geoff Wheatley at Hilton Head. Geoff was patient and kind and a world of knowledge. He taught me so much, and I miss him dearly at Hilton Head. My father gave me some sage advice when I first started, and his memory is always with me on every Concours show field.
