Sure, there have been countless examples of Camaro, Corvette and Mustang restomods, but what about a Mercedes-Benz 450 SL? That’s what Pogea Racing created with its first Pogea Classics offering, Project 107, now available to the public.

The bespoke builds start with a 1979 U.S.-spec 450 SL. Pogea then strips the car, down to removing its paint and giving it a KTL treatment. Then they repaint the car in Pogea Grey.

Under the hood, the powertrain and electronics come from a Mercedes-AMG C55, which delivers 400 horsepower. However, customers can elect to use any Mercedes-Benz drivetrain, up to 2020, that can fit. Other performance upgrades include a KW V3 suspension, C55 AMG-sourced Brembo brake system and forged 19-inch Pogea wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Other wheels can be used upon request.

Inside, the dash uses an AMG cluster, steering wheel and shifter. Recaro Ergomed seats receive upholstery in original Mercedes-Benz leather. Restomod Air, with app-based controls, provides the a/c and heat. In-car entertainment uses a Retroclassics system with a Steg DSP, active subwoofer and Steg speakers.

Since the build primarily consists of Mercedes-Benz OEM parts, it makes service possible at Mercedes dealers.

Pogea Classics plans to introduce other restomods based on Porsche, Ferrari, Volksagen and Chevrolet. As far as Project 107, pricing will vary as each example s built to the customer's desires.

May I present a new internet rule? If a classic car exists, there is someone out there giving it the Singer treatment.

As an aside, I love the formula, though I personally would go down a size or two with the wheels.

Agree. I hereby dub it the Wood Rule for the Economics of Classic Cars.

Or the WRECC rule for short?
