Review: Tampa Bay British Car Club Tour

On Saturday March 18 we were invited by Phil Ross, president of the Tampa Bay British Car Club, to join them on a tour from Lutz, Florida to nearby Dade City. Despite the proximity of the two cities, tour leaders Carl and Donna Tela managed to put together about 80 miles of fantastic, hilly, scenic and curvy roads.

Most folks just don’t understand that the spine that runs through the center of Florida has such good roads throughout it. Leaving at just after 10 a.m., we lowered the top and loved running our Triumph TR6 through this gorgeous countryside.

From there, the group of about 30 British cars—ranging from a Triumph 1800 from the forties to a new MINI Cooper S—stopped for lunch at A Matter Of Taste Restaurant in Dade City, Florida. There the group commandeered the entire top floor of the restaurant for a nice lunch.

This club of over 150 paid members has meetings every month, except during the holidays. Activities range from breakfast meets to a spring picnic and drives like the one we attended.

They are well organized, have a web site and Facebook page, and even have subscriptions to Classic Motorsports magazine worked into every member’s benefits package.

We look forward to joining this progressive, friendly group again in the future.
