Snapshots from the pre-renovation IMS Museum

Photography by Tim Suddard

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum might be closed for renovation until the foreseeable future, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy these photos we snapped just before the closing.

You can learn more about the renovations here, but the short version is that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum plans to reconfigure its current setup to improve the guest experience “from the moment you step inside.”

The museum also notes that it will still use its existing footprint, and that many fan favorites–like the Borg-Warner Trophy and the Indy 500-winning cars–will remain.

When the museum reopens, I highly recommend paying a visit. So much history under one roof. It's amazing to see the cars evolve over the decades and the innovations the earlier cars had.

Nice set of photos, from a fabulous collection of cars!  The innovations were a big part of what made the Indy 500 the greatest spectacle in racing.
