How to refurbish the rear storage binnacle cover in a C2 Corvette

Photography by Tim Suddard

After patching the holes in our Corvette’s storage binnacle, we took a look at its cover. The carpet just looked faded and dirty. Plus the edges of the carpet had curled up. It all looked pretty shabby.

We vacuumed the carpet; beneath the curled-up edges, we cleaned the panel itself with some prep solvent.

We then glued down the carpet with Weldwood contact cement.

To help adhesion, we placed two heavy drawers full of nuts and bolts on top of the panel.

The next morning, we had a panel that looked correct–no more curled edges.

We finished the job by masking the white thread used to attach the binding before touching up the carpet itself with our blue Top Flight interior dye.

Now this cover blends in with the rest of the interior.
