Before replacing that interior piece, can it be saved?
While we had the console out of our 1965 Corvette in order to fix the shifter and shift boot, we took the opportunity to rescue the armrest.
It looked nasty: a filthy vinyl covering that was coming loose because its adhesive had failed. But, otherwise, the materials all looked good.
We cleaned the vinyl, dried it with a heat gun, and then reglued it with Weldwood contact cement. After almost 60 years of use, the original foam looked good enough to retain.
After rejuvenating the armrest, we reinstalled it. It looks and feels much better.
