This 1964 Shelby 289 Cobra must have stood out among the Silver Surfer collection of the late Neil Peart, the drummer of the band Rush. The rest of his collection included silver-colored Italian, British and American GT cars. Now, though, you have the opportunity to rock the classic car world with this “concours-level restoration.”
In 1987, marque expert Bill Kemper purchased the Cobra and began a multi-year restoration. While the car originally came in red, he finished it instead in black.
This example still retained many of its original factory options, but also had the following added: Spax adjustable gas shocks, stainless steel brake lines and a stainless steel side-exit exhaust system. The original–and correct–number stampings remain on the hood and trunk latches, with the seller saying they’re “a telltale sign that this Cobra retains a high degree of body originality.”
Find this 1964 Shelby 289 Cobra up for auction from Broad Arrow Auctions, with an estimated winning bid of $1,000,000-$1,200,000.
