This Jaguar D-type won’t be gone in 60 seconds when it hits the auction block (it’ll go quickly, for sure), but it was good enough for the star of the 2000 film “Gone in 60 Seconds.” That’s right, Nicolas Cage once owned this car, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg for this D-type’s story.
Jaguar only built 54 production examples of the car that won Le Mans three times. This car was raced in-period the Southeastern U.S. It later sporadically raced, including vintage events, but also went to Hollywood a couple of times.
The Jaguar appeared in My Three Sons–Tim Considine used the car to commute to the TV series–as well as Perry Mason. Actor Nicolas Cage, who bought it in 1999, placed it in his billiard room before selling it in 2002.
Find this 1955 Jaguar D-type up for auction at RM Sotheby’s, with an estimated winning bid of $4,500,000-$5,500,000.
