When you own a barbershop whose clientele includes Steve McQueen, Frank Sinatra and Paul Newman, you need a car to match your Hollywood style, right? For Jay Sebring, that vehicle was this Shelby 289 Cobra.

How much of an impact did Sebring have on McQueen? McQueen spoke at his funeral. How did Sebring die? He was among the those murdered by the Manson family in 1969.

This Cobra is a late-production, rack-and-pinion example. It has a matching-numbers engine and chassis. Within the past 25 years, it’s had that engine rebuilt by a Canadian NASCAR mechanic, among other work that was carried out by Cobra specialists Rare Drive and Cobra Automotive.

Find this 1964 Shelby 289 Cobra for auction at Gooding & Company, with an estimated value of $900,000-$1,100,000.
