The final preproduction Ford GT built

What’s more desirable than the first production Ford GT built? How about the GT built before the first production model?

That’s right, this Ford GT–also known as PB2-1–is the final preproduction model produced.

According to the seller, the GT was used to explore the possibility of producing a “Mark II” model in addition to its usual model development duties.

As part of that process, the car was sent to SVT Engineering, where it was fitted with several prototypical parts, including a smaller supercharger pulley. (Likewise, the exhaust manifold heat shields feature a “Mark II” imprint.)

Additionally, Camilo Pardo–the GT's chief designer–and Carroll Shelby have signed the dash, and several Ford team members have signed the underside of the front hood.

Find this 2005 Ford GT PB2-1 for auction from Mecum, with proceeds to benefit Curing Kids Cancer.

The color? The signatures? The prototypical parts? Perfection.

In theory, that smaller supercharger pulley alone would make things more interesting.
