During the 1990s, this Porsche 911 underwent a transformation from a modest 2.0-liter coupe to a race car. The project was overseen by two-time WRC champ Walter Röhrl, who also served as the test driver.

Porsche engineers Oliver Bienert and Manfred Rugen worked the project. Bienert lightened the car, added a roll cage, installed Recaro seats and readied the interior for racing. Rugen focused on the engine, upgrading the air-cooled flat-six for some 195 horsepower. After the project was completed in 1996, Röhrl drove it in the 1996 Bavaria Rallye Historic.

Former Porsche Motorsport engineer Matthias Hoenig rebuilt the engine between 2020 and 2022. The seller notes that it’s an ideal candidate for historic rallies or to be adapted for a 2.0-liter Cup spec.

Find this 1965 Porsche 911 Coupé for auction at RM Sotheby’s with an estimated value of €100,000-€150,000 (approximately $110,000-$165,000 USD).

I don’t know about anyone else, but even though it’s not original, the color combo of Maritime Blue and yellow on this car makes it so much more desirable to me.
