Outsiders may not always understand the concept, but most of the time, a "$2000 Challenge Car" has an actual value higher than $2000 when completed.  Between deal hunting, parts scavenging, fabricating, and often tons of man hours, a Challenge car can have some significant value when completed.

So my question is, what are some of the higher values fetched by ex-Challenge cars once they've hit the market?

Didn't the mumpkin sell for like 10k on fbm recently?

Datsanati was another one that came up for sale recently for a decent chunk of money iirc.

The Mumpkin was for sale recently at a crazy high price. (Kinda annoyed me).  I'm not aware whether it sold.

Some of Andrew Nelson's cars have sold high (perhaps the highest), but I don't know the prices. You'd have to ask him! 😊

I seem to recall that the Vorschlag E30 got an engine swap and sold for ~$20k on ebay motors.

I bought the Abomination from Curmudgeon for $3500 back in 2010 or so. It was a 2006 car.

I'll take $3500 for it now if anyone is interested.

As a owner/builder of a Rotary British car with big sticky tires..   that's a solid deal.  Someone should take it.

It's a hoot to drive. Unfortunately, I'm too big to fit in it anymore.

If anyone is interested, I'll even throw in the lightweight fiberglass bonnet I drove to Delaware to get.

😂 I know...the price is very optimistic.  I guess the truth is, I don't really want to let it go.  But if someone wants it at that price, I'm willing.  I have a buddy who says he's got $8k for me if it doesn't sell before June. 🤷‍♂️. Price is $8k for a GRM'er.  Again, I'm aware it's very optimistic.

I see it as an Exocet, but even more unique, mid-engine, and more powerful (than a stock miata powertrain).

I've often wondered what LMP360 would bring.  It's either a lot or basically nothing.  I'm not sure which one.

At multiple events I've had people "offer" 20-25K but it cost nothing to run your mouth so who knows.  It is VERY unlikely I will find out.

Having watched the market on those for a couple of years-I feel like your price is appropriate.

Sold the Plywood Porsche for $4,750 on eBay after the $2016 challenge, it sat in out front of a used furniture place in Deland with a bunch of other odd cars (hearse, Bugatti clone, Ferrari clone, Model-T, and even a 40' Cigarette boat.  Owner of the furniture place said that completed his collection except for a fire-truck, which he was picking up the next day.  You never know what itch a challenge car might scratch.

Then in $2020 sold the Vette Cart for $7500 on ebay to a guy in Seattle Washington, who sent an enclosed car carrier to pick it up from me in Florida :()  That had to be pricey.

My shopmate's Challenge N600 just sold on BaT recently: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-honda-600-3/

Granted, this car certainly falls towards the tons-of-man-hours, lots-of-fabrication end of the Challenge spectrum, and like most Challenge cars, would cost orders of magnitude more than Challenge price if anyone had gotten paid even minimum wage for the time put into it.

In addition, it isn't just as it left the Challenge, as it has seen development and upgrades since.

Some might call $15.5k too expensive for Challenge contender. Others might say it is cheap for a totally-unique hand-built car with eye-watering performance. Nice to see that someone appreciates the effort put into a build like this and is willing to pay more than Challenge price. smiley

The issue with selling exo-cars for any kind of real money is people either: A) hate them and think it's only worth scrap value since they aren't a 'car' anymore, or B) absolutely love them but they don't have the money/space to keep it/would upset their spouse. The market of actual buyers for exo-cars is a pretty small range, I think largely due to the impracticality of them.

It took me roughly 9-ish months to sell my Crown Vic kart for a price I was happy with. Being in no rush to sell helps a lot, if you're good with keeping to for a while you'll eventually come across someone who's able to actually buy it, being in Florida should help since driving season for something like that is much wider.
