Road & Track called the Chevette "The most backward car produced by a forward country." in their road test.
I drove one of those in High School. Had the "sport suspension". For the cars of the day, it wasn't completely terrible. By todays standards it would require significant upgrades to be a POS!
My wife had one of those when we were dating and she kept it into the early part of our marriage. The engine blew up and I picked up another one out of a Pontiac T1000. I started to swap them and I ended up breaking the windshield. It was at that moment I said to myself "self why are you even bothering with this piece of crap?" Junked the car and went out and bought her a brand new 86 Mazda 626 turbo.. Oh Yea!

And how did you like that? I have two of them.
"Junked the car and . . . "
You didn't save it for me ? ! ? ! You MUST have know that I'd be coming by eventually . . .
One of a few cars on the road that realistically could be considered totalled if the gas tank was empty. Filling the tank will cost a significant percentage of the cars value!
The 626 turbo was hands down the best car she has ever had. The G60 Corrado was pretty cool too. She used to take my TVR 280i and my Saab Sonett whenever she could, but those were mine.

I drove an '80 "scooter" version briefly in HS. Yea it was completely terrible. The Malibu with a dying 305 & Metric 200 was a significant upgrade. I do smile when I see a Chevette today though. I can give it props for surviving 3+ decades.
