2004 Mazda RX-8 with 5 speed. It was submerged under water in the recent Baton Rouge floods. Fresh water, not salt. It has a certificate of destruction. Cannot be retitled. It did get water in the engine, but not while it was running. I drained the water out and sprayed it down internally with WD40. The engine is not seized, it rotates smoothly. I haven't tried to run it because the starter is bad. The interior was also flooded and has some mud in it and in general it smells like low tide. It has 18" wheels with pretty decent tires. Odometer shows 130k miles. The car is complete aside from 3 items-- No intake snorkel or MAF, no rear lower control arms. No front bumper. I was hoping to do a rotary Locost with this but I have no time. Located in Gulfport, Ms. My number is 863-258-1775. Thanks

I've see it, it's exactly as described. Good thing I have pretty serious case of Wanklephobia.

Why does it have a certificate of destruction

In reply to markwemple:

Louisiana requires one for all vehicles with flood claims.

But I've seen many flood vehicles from LA resold with titles.

And that's illegal, for good reason - any moving part in that car is going to have grit in it. Seat rails, window motors and tracks, switch assemblies, everything is now garbage.

Car's good for body panels and hard parts, that's it

I've seen flood-cars that had been returned to the road, and their post-flood life is not pretty at all.

edit - Illegal if the car was totalled by insurance. A private owner who didn't make an insurance claim could still sell a vehicle with a clear title.

Go to any insurance site and you'll see plenty. All legally sold. The flood damage is listed in the history and reduces resale like any totalled vehicle. And like any totalled vehicle, it needs to be inspected after all repairs are made.

would make an excellent "body in white" for a track car build.

Yea I've seen lots of heartbreaking stuff with CODs due to the floods. It all about saving the insurance companies money, and laws are easy to buy in louisiana

You should see the 2003 Mustang GT convertible in my shop. 60k miles, flawless car, only the carpet got wet and it's got a COD. It sucks but it is what it is

Wanna sell it? I don't mind the CoD.

Well everything is for sale, but I just can't sell it to anyone that would try to retitle it, because I could lose my dismantler license
