So it looks like I have some little modifications to do. Got 2 sets , 2001 kawasaki zx12 throttle bodies. I would like to use stock flanges and injector ports.
Incredible.
I loved the step by step adapter plate pictures. It's nice to see th technique as well as the outcome.
Crikey!!
The step-by-step process of making the adapter should be an article in the mag/tips section.
Hat's off to those that mate engine and gearboxes together that were never meant to be together. Not much scares me of in car building projects, but hybrid engine/gearbox interfaces is one that I can't see ever doing.
This is tremendous! Questions-did you have a sacrificial bell housing? I'm guessing you used the Volvo starter to match the flywheel. How did the holes match up Volvo flywheel to Merc V-8? Do you have any plans for a public speaking tour once this is all done? What rear are you gonna use?

Hi. 93 500sel cost me shipped to my door $600 , It made my life much easier to draw a engine pattern using a bell hosing. That was previously cut away from tranny ,merc engine m119 came with it. I used mercedes ring gear and starter. Outside diameter of volvo fly wheel was a perfect match to inside diameter of factory ring gear that was bolted on to merc torque converter. I did six nice size spot welds on the back side. Fly wheel was shown to my clutch specialist that I used in passed , Great guy Mark from Falcon Clutches in Deer Park NY . http://www.falconauto.com/ He couldn't believe that fit was so nice . Also said to me that welds look stronger then most of the manufacturers use , We just going to rebalance it and it's ready. Rear end is a little tricky . I would love to use mercedes independent style rear that car has in it right now. I think it will stay that way until is driveable. I know it is a open diff set up which suck, but I need to do some research , I can adapt some type of rear . If it doesn't work out I will fallow american path , Ford 9 inch or so.
I hope my recreation becomes my retiring plan one day
This is my daily driver

Great work! You're really getting stuff done. How is the spacing on the TBs vs the ports?
I am totally super jelous of your shop too!
This week hes been busy so not a lot was done. I order some materials for throttle set up. Clutch is done , all balanced and ready to go . Pressure plate has more 40% more preload and I got new throw out bearing for bmw getrag .
Today fresh delivery straight from my brother from Poland .
Master fits, Pedals need some fresh paint and brake switch works :)
I made up a high tech tool for shaping inlet tubes for an intake set up
This is like, the BUILD OF MY DREAMS! WHOA. Incredible. Gawd, I always swore if I came into money, I'd turn one into a replica.
I actually drove it in Stuttgart, the Mercedes 300 SEL museum car. Of course, while it's known as the Red Pig, it isn't the original. That one was lost forever, after being sold to Matra to test bloody airplane tires.

Incredible.
I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I would love even more pictures of the process. Not that you're missing anything, but there isn't anything about this that I'm not totally in love with.
I will start with engine and tranny . Today picked up fly wheel and clutch. Set up looks phenomenal . Clutch set up. 1990 volvo 740 pilot bearing 1984 volvo 240 flat fly wheel 1989 328 pressure plate with 40% more clamping force custom made kevlar 6 puck clutch disc , to 2001 540 spec to fit big bmw input shaft Balanced rotate assembly
Everything is mounted permanently . Torque down all the bolt with locktide , now lets hope it will stay all together . One last small issue that I came across is push rod for slave cylinder . It is to short. Clutch sits probably half an inch deeper then bmw factory set up .
I will make an adjustable rod. It looks like It will be all working
Now lets jump in to ITB set up. I got 1.75 6061 alloy tubing today . Machined flat cut off section . I cut it to deep with band saw before machining so couple spots will need extra fill up with welds . In my case not a problem .
I spaced out throttle bodies in the middle now looks like I will almost fall itself in to place . Factory intake was quite tall so I got no worries for hood clearance.
Yesterday got couple free minutes to spin new 2 1/4 inches extended push rod for getrag tranny . This is what I ended up with. Perfect fit and hopefully there will be no problem with mechanical arm advantage that comes to play with clutch action .
Also I extended arms on throttle actuators.
I got still minimal flex but I don't think that should be an issue . If so will make them beefier.
This is pretty much a complete transplant that will mount in to w108 chassis . I need to take care of the mess with pulleys and accessories that run off a belt . 500sel had lots of it . No A/C on red pig so compressor is going away too.
