It got buried pretty quickly. I guess I have to update more often!
In reply to LanEvo: Woah, that looks nice. Care to elaborate on the specs of that there shifter?
Your car is very inspiring- the 2.3-16 is one of my regular Craigslist searches, and it is motivating me to do more than look. Keep up the good work!

Its a CAE Ultra Shifter. Just replaces the stock shifter mechanism.
We want to move the shifter further back in the chassis. This lets us do that while also shortening the throws and raising the knob way up. Plus, it's got a reverse lockout in case other people drive the car who are not familiar with the dog-leg pattern.

Here's a picture of a CAE shifter in an E39 M5 track rat:

Part of me was bummed to see it cease to be a street car, but dammit if it doesn't make one helluv an awesome race car!!! I guess it's good that it's back to its DTM roots.
Great project. Looks like a monster of a performer.
Wow... that's not a shifter for the feint of wallet. I'm glad I'm seeing this after I've resigned to unloading my E30... If I ever get another MINI, tho... all bets are off...
Great build thread. It's been fun to read.

I hear what you're saying, but they sold enough of these things that it's not that big of a deal. They're fairly uncommon here in America, but they sold huge numbers in Europe.
This particular car came from SoCal. The bodywork and mechanicals were in fantastic shape, but the leather interior was completely trashed from 25 years of sun and heat. Perfect candidate for a track rat.

I sold a set of staggered Carlsson alloys to fund the purchase. Killed two birds with one stone: cleaned out some (much needed) garage space and got myself a blinged-out shifter worth more than the car.
I was at Summit Point for NASA Hyperfest this past weekend. The weekened before that, I was back at Tremblant with the BMW Club of Quebec. Still sorting through the hours of video.
Meanwhile, here are some photos from Tremblant in the rain:

Looking at the pics, I'm surprised to see so much body roll at the rear. The car feels flat, stable, and very neutral in the corners. What do you guys think? More spring rate?
Looks aren't everything...If the car feels stable to you, I say stick with it for now. You could experiment with some stiffer rates or bigger sway bars- there could be room for improvement, but I wouldn't be hot to make changes just because I saw some pics of the car squatting a bit at full boogie. On the subject of looks, I would like to point out that your car looks terrific!
I saw a really clean black 2.3-16 in traffic yesterday. I almost Bob Costas'd my pants and rear ended the car infront of me.
Beans, I'm not sure that means what you think it means. Bob Costas, that is.Check here.

SNORT
Fantastic car...I used to hop on youtube and look for vids of this thing revving out...this motor sounds amazing!
Here's some in-car footage from NASA HyperFest last weekend. I'm trying to learn how to edit video. This one combines front and rear cameras; I'm playing with the picture-in-picture function.

Oh I know what it means.
I'm not sure what I meant thinking back though. Was kinda hung over that day. Probably something along the lines of rain forest or something. I can't recall. I slept under my cubicle's desk most of the day.
Here's a short session (just 7-8 min) from Mosport early this month:

Here's a session at NJMP-Thunderbolt from this past winter. Track temps were just above freezing. We got a sprinkling of freezing rain during the day; got hit by a monster blizzard on the drive back home. It was pretty intense.
Surprised by how well the Yoko A048 tires held up under such miserable conditions! They suck pretty bad on a hot/dry track, but did fine on this day. Weird.
