That would be hundreds of pounds of lead on top of many more hours of metal finishing than bondo requires. These shells start out overweight too.

In reply to TurnerX19 :

I don't know if it would be "hundreds of pounds" as it shouldn't need to be that thick.  But yes, the bodies were designed more with strength in mind rather than weight savings.  I'm also saying "leaded" as the technique, but lead-alternative is also an option, although it appears to be somewhat trickier to apply since it flows at a higher temperature than actual lead.

In keeping with the Japanese soul buried under the Swede tin, might I suggest something from the Wabi-sabi school of aesthetics?

Wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophy that encourages embracing the beauty of imperfection and impermanence, suggesting that beauty is found in things that are aged, simple, and flawed, rather than striving for absolute perfection. While there isn't one single "symbol" of wabi-sabi, the Zen circle or enso (円相) is often associated with it.

Every  scratch, dent and weld bead  on the car is a  word, sentence or paragraph in the 62 year-long improbable saga of how this car came to exist.  Anyone know how to make a sticker like this:

If one of you is  not wearing a Kimono and serving Sake and BS to the judges during the Concourse judging, then you are missing a great opportunity.

The green fiberglass reinforced body filler or all metal body filler is what I would use over top of properly scuffed epoxy primer on those flares

In reply to Ian F (Forum Supporter) :

I just melted 2.5 pounds off of 32 square inches of Jaguar Type E fender arch, no flare. The factory steel behind had exited as ferrous oxide. These flares are several hundred square inches. Plus the technique is difficult and at least as environmentally bad as any other. I would put a lot more in the steel if there is time. Later after challenge maybe, but Nohome's idea is superb.

Gariation sent me this picture yesterday:

He was testing out towing set up.  We're undecided whether this or the Burban will tug it down South to the Challenge.

Why was the car on the trailer you're asking?

.

.

Alignment time:

I'll let Gariation chime in about the numbers.

that looks like a lot of tail for a mid-size dog

Here is the best we could get it. Something is going on in the right front. Maybe slightly tweaked control arm? It's passable and the car is stable but understeery in a quick parking lot loop.

In reply to garaithon :

I have kinda the same understeery impression with the Molvo. I wonder if the ackerman being off by the 7" chassis stretch is the cause.

It is not a problem for the way I use the car, but wonder what the effect will be around the cones.

Got the car loaded up and back home! Getting closer!

I got asked if it was a Datsun. Then a Cobra. It definitely draws attention!

From that angle, the tail on the mid-size dog doesn't look so big.

I know you don't have far if a drive to work, but How did it tow & stop?

We taking it South? Or the Burban?

Well, these cars just didn't survive here in the Indiana rust belt.  I think this is the first one I had ever seen in person.  Great design!

In reply to Indy - Guy :

It towed just fine. Working trailer brakes would be nice but that's what you get when you borrow a trailer. Zr2 is rated at 5k and the standard Colorado is rated at 7k so we are well within the capabilities of the truck.

Zr2 is 4700lbs Suburban is 5000lbs with 7k tow rating so either should do just fine. How's it been doing this week?

Monday was garage day.  I think we're going to hold off on the updates and pictures until the Challenge.

A bit of a problem with the paperwork for the car, so it won't be road going as soon as we had hoped. crying

But we'll get it solved eventually.

We leave in 7 days.  Mad dash to get all the paperwork completed (budget finalized and build book). Plus Concourse prep.

We leave in 5 days!

Couldn't resist posting this picture from last night's garage session:  our youngest team member joined in with the car prep.

And my son snapped this picture of the car trying to eat me as I attached the hood.

Ah yes... the joys of attaching an 1800 hood.  For future reference, your life will be easier if you leave the hinges on the radiator panel after you get the alignment right and only remove the four bolts holding the hood to the hinges (5 if you have the support as well).
