About the same as I got out of the 302/T5 combo.

"However, I think a gm 3500 or 3800 engine could work as well.
Engines can be had for $200. Trans can be had from $free to about $200 (T5WC from a 1997-2002 v6 camaro) will bolt right up.
That T5 is already set up for a torque arm or, PPF as mazda states.
So, then all you need is a clutch, flywheel, driveshaft, HTOB, and a $105 tune on the ecu.
The 3800 and most of those parts can be pillaged from a wrecked 4th gen v6 camaro.
Fairly straight forward 205hp swap."
I like this idea a lot! Especially using the 4th gen T5 with the PPF...
All right, all right......
Hear me out.....
How about the 4th gen T5 with the PPF... ( 60 degree pattern bellhousing )
and ...
and....
An LS4. 💥 BOOM 🤯
(I know, I know, we have to figure out starter mounting, but that's easy)

Not yet. Wanna trade a four cylinder Ford T5 ?
I saw this on marketplace this morning and thought of this thread. https://www.facebook.com/share/18xif5WrEj/?mibextid=wwXIfr
In reply to RacetruckRon :
Thanks for thinking of us. However, Gumby and I have come to an agreement. We now have a 4th Gen Firebird/Camaro V6 T5 to add to the mix of potential swaps.
You know you could add that Camaro T5 to a redrilled small block Chevy bell housing behind an LS right? And if I'm not mistaken be able to use and off the shelf LS clutch and flywheel
In reply to Dusterbd13 :
Seriously ?
Tell me more about this bellhousing?
Or would a bell housing from a gen 3 Camaro SBC work?
Like the one I have sitting here:
In reply to Indy - Guy :
I believe the 4th gen T5 went to the Ford pattern but don't quote me on that. Would you get your 4th gen Trans in line the two up and see what you got. What you want to look up is big block Chevy to LS bellhousing and that will give you all the ins and outs of what Clutch to run for a small block Chevy bell housing to LS as they actually use the same bell housing spacing as your Camaro bellhousing that you have a picture of.
I got brave and drove the P1800 back from lunch break!
Indy also killed the clutch actuator cylinder trying to get a 15.99 at the drags! :) So I got that changed with a new one that came with the car.

I love "Drive Your Race Car to Work Day" ! (similar to drive your race car to church day from back in 2019):
(Yep, that's Indy-kid #2 & #3)
Oh, and sorry about the clutch actuator. 😭
In reply to Indy - Guy :
It looked rough from the get go! I'm just glad it made it through the challenge!

I thought about going this route. It will be a lot of work and that trans may not hold up.
I also looked at Northstar engines.
Oh, one more thing to think about. The camaro trans is tilted like 12 or 15 degrees for some unknown reason. This will put the shifter closer to the drivers right leg. I offset my engine in the rx8 by about 1 to 1.5 inches (for other reasons), but it helped shifter location. I also made a big swoopy curvy shifter handle to make the shifter sit up "straight" instead of angled to the side.
In reply to garaithon :
How the heck did you get that thing bled without us? It was a total PITA to bleed when we installed the first one.
I'd be a little nervous about putting a T5 behind an LS. They are not known for their strength. However, I have over 300k on the one behind a 305 SBC that I drive like a grandma, so YMMV.
Regarding SBC/LS compatibility, the bellhousing bolt patterns aren't 100% identical, but they are compatible. 5/7 bolts and 2/2 dowel pins are identical so they will bolt up to each other, however the crank flange on the LS family is .400" closer to the block than the SBC so that is a consideration. An option is to use a BBC manual bellhousing like duster mentioned, there are also aftermarket LS flywheels you can buy that are .400" thicker, though they are kind of expensive. I also have no idea what the crank spacing of the LS4 is, so that may throw a wrench in things.
In reply to Indy - Guy :
I think the old one was pulling air around the seal of the push rod. It took me more time to find a jar and clear piece of hose!

I had an STS-V so I have a real soft spot for northstars as well! Definitely an underrated engine, especially in its final rwd form.
Indy? See any cheap STSs on the auto auctions?
re: ls4, i finally settled on a 55-56 chevy starter mount and starter and drilling the block for the sbc pattern as there are bosses there. LS4 has dowel holes in the sbc location. 55-56 265's did not have the starter flat cast into the block like 57-up so they had a spacer between engine and trans that has the starter mount built in. For the challenge I had planned to buy a reproduction plate from summit and use it as a template then return it because they're local so it would not cost them shipping. I'd feel like a dick if they paid shipping to me knowing I was going to trace it and pack it back up. Plus you can chuck the rwd crank in an ls4 block and get the right spacing for the flywheel and front accessories.
In reply to garaithon :
I am intrigued by the northstars as well, especially after seeing the one that Calvin is working on, on his youtube channel.
I think you still had your STS-V or at least you were telling me about it when I traded you that 960.
So Indy guy don't hog all the auction STS's ha ha. But if you do get one I have some odd ball ideas for swapping them into places they don't belong.
After our experience at the Challenge, I went to Randy's site and bought these. Gotta get at least one on the car:
