Test mounting the Mazda wheels has revealed a flaw, the center bore of the wheel is slightly too small, I believe this could be fixed with some small spacers. Luckily plenty of room left under the fender wells.
Very bad mechanical day for me. Went to drive my daily (Hyundai Veloster) and the shift linkage went out so had to get a tow. Ranger also decided to crap the bed, driveshaft is too long after cutting out the bump stops in the rear to allow some more travel. So riding my moped around now
More work getting done on the ranger, thinking of going the drift truck route. Took the bed off to flip the shack cause I've had some noise with the driveshaft from it being low. Need to do U-bolts and fix a crack I found in the frame right behind the front leaf mount.
Whoa, forgot about this thread lol. Truck has not been driven much this summer. Busy chasing problems and finding the time to work on it. Changed out the valve cover and intake gasket, new coil, imrc valve and found a blown pcm memory fuse causing 8 cel codes. Car is undrivable atm due to a horrible bog while driving, sending it to my mechanic as I finally accepted defeat. Other than that need a fender and hopefully back on the road soon.
I know the thought has probably passed by now, but just want to clarify that Mustang 8.8s won't work easily in a Ranger because the dif is centered on the axle, while on Rangers and Explorers they're offset to one side to clear the fuel tank. And obviously you'd have different mounting tabs for the link suspension in the Stang vs the Leaf springs in the trucks.
Hopefully you can get the truck back on the road soon.

Didn't know that about the axles, always learning something. All my resources this summer went to trying to get it going but hopefully I can start modifying stuff again soon.
Well, she managed to limp her way to the skilled hands of the local mechanic. I think I'm just overthinking some small thing but I don't have all the diagnostic tools or time to find the issue.
Hopefully picking up the truck tomorrow from the mechanic, he found a leak at the intake and there was a bunch of junk in the fuel, even though I had swapped the fuel filter. Now time to start hunting for a fender.

No more ranger :( , after replacing a multitude of parts and spending too much at the mechanics I called the scrap guy. Truck served me well for almost 5 years but it was honestly a basket case.

Appreciate it, you may have me confused for someone but I would love to able to build a challenge car one day.
Guess I can do a maintenance thread now. So here's my 2013 Hyundai Veloster, it's the extremely boring n/a dct. Only picture I took was the day I bought it two years ago now

Anyone can build a Challenge car any day. Some like the Nelsons do it in their sleep. Some like Andy Newman just buy something and show up. Some like AC take years to build a car that may never make it. Want to come? I know of a $600 3rd? gen Eclipse a street over. Supposedly runs. Auto. Buy it, throw some tires on it, show up and have some fun.

I would love to learn more about the challenge(location, rules etc) so one day (when I have personal and financial freedom to do so) I could give it a shot. Currently I'm just a young buck trying to figure out life after high school

Also I want to say as towards your recent experience, you can always ask for help here. It's freely given. I remember years ago a guy with no experience working on cars buying a IIRC Volvo 240. He spent several months asking questions about problems and what to do. The GRM community stepped up and walked him step by step on how to get it back on the road. It's what this place is about.

Thank you, I truly appreciate that. I have a decent skill set but still lots to learn and could probably benefit by asking for help sometimes
Well I have some exciting news... going to look at a new ranger tommorow. 2000 2.3 rwd 5 m/t. 
Edit 2.5L, Didn't realize this was the only 4 cylinder option for a 2000
