Slowly plodding my way through wiring. Previous owner did a really nice job of it but then I went and changed the switches and locations, changed the fuse box, changed from gen to alt so there's a lot of things I have to rework, it ended up just being easier unlooming everything and pretty much starting over. I hate me some days.

It would help if I didn't distract myself with things like making a mounting bracket for the ignition switch. I didn't want it cut into the body. It actually tucks up nicely so it cant be seen at all. A little form over function as it is harder to reach but its doable.

And yes I tested, the key locks into the switch in Run so it wont be falling out going down the road.

Ok, got the primary circuit all wired up. Yeah I work slow. Remember everything is installed with rivnuts so there's extra time and effort there. I wasn't really going to use stainless clips on the harness but I had bought the wrong ones for the brakes and rather than send em back they were the perfect size for the wire loom. Technically its wired enough to run if the engine was in. Lights are next. I need to go get a relay for the headlight, dont like the look of the wires in my new headlight switch, dont think they'll carry full power for long.

Still a week or 2 out on the fuel tank so that's the main hold up. Im actually at a point where parts delays are kicking in but I have things to stay busy with.

Got everything to install the intake and carb today so I'll probably do that tonite since I need relays and connectors to finish wiring lights. Still waiting on new plug wires but I could fire it on the old ones.

Waiting on exhaust. Previous owner put a tri mil unbaffled stinger on it. Aside from not really wanting to piss off my neighbors that bad running a low restriction exhaust like that will burn valves in a VW motor. So I kept the tri mill headers but ordered a glasspack to replace the stinger. Thought about going with the full quiet exhaust but the thing needs a little attitude still.

Wife comes home mid day tomorrow so it will be a short day for me. But shes working saturday and sunday so I'll still get a lot done this weekend. Need to start drilling out the body for mounts and other bits but havent really been in a big hurry to do that.

Waiting on turn signals. Turns out the lights the PO put in the tail are running light/brake light only. I got an LED strip light (and correct relay) for turn signals and additional stop lights. Never have too much lighting on the back of a bike.

Engine should be ready to install tonight or tomorrow morning.

Oh and waiting on the new brake rotors now since the ones I got were the wrong ones for my axles.

Probably waiting on other stuff but you get the idea. I've got this weekend still to do a lot more next weekend my daughter visits so both projects go on hold. Still I think I'll be riding unpainted sometime in April. May hold off on paint a bit to focus more on the Jeep and wait for warmer weather.

Maybe I'll do a test fire on a temp fuel source for ya saturday just so I can meet expectations :)

Ok, maybe y'all can help me find something. I got some nice waterproof connectors so I'd have disconnect points for everything for body removal. They have a slot in the back to mount on a clip but so far the only place I've found that clip is on an ebay listing in germany. Does anyone know what these are called or where to find them? Doesnt even have to be this style, just some kind of mount clip that fits that slot in the back of the connector. Might just cut a few out of sheetmetal if I cant find anything.

On that note I wired in these connectors to the headlight/turn/horn switch this morning and added 2 relays for the headlight and ran power to them. Need to go get cleaned up to pick the wife up at the airport so short day today.

If anyone was waiting on a daily trike build update sorry, its small. Went and got 2 relays for the headlight this morning, installed those and ran the power wires to them. Added weatherproof disconnects to the wires on the headlight/turnsignal/horn switch. Installed the new purple spark plug wires on the motor.

Then I picked Kelley up at the airport so we're done in the garage today.

Quick note about the wires (Taylor 8mm, bought them because I could get them in purple) I was installing them and they weren't clipping on the the plugs. I looked and they were standard style not the VW style. I was thinking I was going to have to go by 4 cheap spark plugs just to steal the little screw on ends. But Taylor is all right and it turns out they included them in the box.

Got my GPS speedo and housing today too. I need to work out a mounting solution as my original plan is a no go. Yet again something I dont want to cut into the body. Only body cut ins will be fuel gauge, and idiot lights for oil, alternator and turn signal indicator.

I ordered some interior clips for my Miata from this place last week. Maybe you can find something here. They shipped very quickly.

Wiring day part 2, wiring is finally done, or as done as it can be until put the engine in and body on to make the final connections.

The stray wires on the left are turn signal indicator from flasher, main power lead for gauges, alternator signal wire for idiot light and oil pressure signal wire for idiot light (mostly typing this so I remember it later) Ignore the mess of weatherproof connectors, I have a small aluminum project box on the way to mount them all better.

2 constant power fuses from battery, 3 switched power, 1 unused at the moment.

Aaand I found a flaw in the wiring design. Easily fixed though.

I was working on the assumption that when high beams were on so were the low for max lighting. So I wired the running lights into the low beams. Nope, low beams do not get power with the high beams on. Since the laws in this and most states require lights on all the time for motorcycles I'm just going to move the running lights to an ignition on hot and add a small switch just in case I need to shut them off.

Well, that's done. Realistically I think by the end of day tomorrow I'll be on hold for parts. I can wire the motor, (both wires) run the final brake lines, then mount and drill the body. After that I'm on parts hold. Currently waiting on fuel tank and brake rotors. Drilling the body will take some time because it's not something I want to mess up, but still, another solid day in tomorrow and we're going to be very close to riding.

Yep, I still have to fab a few small patches for that and then its all paint prep. Kinda slacking off waiting for warmer weather so I can pull it outside to sand it. My garage is full of enough dust and crap already.

I was told in my younger days that you don't want to run high and low beam simultaneously as it will kill the bulb in short order. I cannot say from personal experience but a quick internet scan seems to support this.

Of course, this only applies to a dual-filament bulb.

Sounds right which is why my switch doesn't do it. I just wasn't thinking that way when I made the original circuit for the running lights. All sorted now and just have the running lights working with ignition on independent of the headlights.
