Got the rest of the top plates done and then the joist. The "roof" is just laying there. It's an old piece of zip so when I sheath it I'll get new panels. Amazing how slow you work when you're doing it from a ladder.
Here's the cut station.

And done. For now.

Nephew Stampie is back in SC and we're back in Jax. It was a fun weekend. I learned that after a few games I start to show flashes of how good I used to be at pool. I was playing 5 nights a week before Lil Stampie was born then I quit and maybe have averaged 1 pool night a year in the 16 years since. I also learned that my body is not used to that much activity. I'm still sore and pretty sure I'll end up taking a nap here in a bit.
The tent worked well for them. I had a queen size foam pad that I cut in half. Lil Stampie said it was better than the wood floor but neither gave it glowing reviews. It wasn't as firm as I thought it would be. Also condensation would form in the morning on the interior sides of the tent. That would pool up a little in the mornings. Not sure what can be done about that.
I suspected last weekend and confirmed this weekend that the cell signal is much better on the property. When I was messing around with the hotspot stuff last year I know I had issues with service on 90% of the property. I now get 5G on most of it and even turned off the cell booster to confirm that I was working fine without it. Sucks for all the work I put into the tower and stuff. I may get rid of the booster totally since it accounts for almost half my electric usage per day.
I also figured out a semipassive way to control the temperature inside the cabin. I'd leave the door open all day to keep it from running away but it would peak in the low to mid 80's. As soon as the sun went down I'd close the door with the temp around 78-80 degrees. Over night it would get down to the high 60's but very easy to deal with. Of course that's what's working right now but deep winter and summer will be very different. I've been thinking about thermosyphon systems a lot. The biggest issue I see is getting heat over night.
Bob and I came back to Gainesville today. Someone wants to have a work morning tomorrow and I don't do well with early Saturday mornings. At least Dyintorace suggested that I come in the day before so I could sleep in a little. Not a working on the property weekend but nice to be back.
First I checked the inside cabin temp sensor. This last week gives a good idea of what you can see weather wise during the winter. From right below freezing a week ago to high 80s inside today.

Bob and I chilled on the platform for a while but once the sun started going down we headed inside. I put the two halves of the queen size memory foam under my camping pad and damn it feels nice.

We timed it well to be able to see this daylight under the door.

Yep that's a big gap that I need to seal. For now I stuffed a shirt in it hoping to keep the inside temps up tonight. It's an easy fix with some 1x2. I didn't bring any tools but I may measure it and at least cut the wood at Dyin's house tomorrow so that I can track how it goes with the sensor. No need to go crazy with heating and cooling if I don't have a well sealed cabin.
We went back for another couple of nights. On Friday I after we got in I started assembling some intercooler tubing that I had in the shed. Pretty sure it came from Dusterdb13 who got it from Patrick. It wasn't doing anything and I thought I could make it part of a thermosyphon cooler so there you go. Here's it going together.

Yesterday I spent the morning and early afternoon at Dyintorace's house. Once I got back I quickly put the rest together. Here's the outside unit.

And where they go into the cabin.

Other than that it was a chill out weekend. The thermosyphon cooler did work dropping the low temp by 4 degrees with both days highs, lows, and cabin starting temp being about the same. I'll do more updates in the off topic discussion I started here.

Interesting device! Our winters are so different. It was 15 degrees this morning.....
In reply to java230 :
Yes very very different. That's why when I ask for advice I also have to consider where they are located. Not rubbing it in but today is high of 80 and low of 55.

Reading thru your other thread now. Ground heat/cooling seems worthy. Yes a little electrical to run the pump and fan but pretty low draw.
I don't mind the snow. It's fun. But I'm ready for summer and get some projects going!
