I am loving this build! I think this is everyone's idea of an ideal car build - a bunch of guys who really know their stuff, getting in and getting it done, rather than having a project that drags on and takes months/years.
A question - does the transmission receive a cover to do away with the OEM rear wheel drive output, and simply use the front wheels output to drive the rear wheels on the 818? Is anything special required to negate the OEM rear output?
On the topic of edward's post, what kind of options are there for limited-slip diffs? The WRX never came with a limited slip front diff, did it?
Transmission Conversion - yes, the original front output is used to drive the rear wheels in the 818. The transfer case is removed and a block off plate is supplied with the kit along with a locking device of some sort that is installed at the rear of the transmission.
The US WRX never came with a front LSD. There are several aftermarket options though.
This is probably what I'll be using in mine. It's an OBX Torsen intended for the front wheels of a WRX.
And i'm back from Monterey! Tom was unable to post too much for me on his previous build trip, sorry about the drop in updates guys. Playing photographer, running the build team, and getting editorial is a ton to juggle! Well done, sir. I'm working on looking through photos, so for today here are the parts of the video series that you missed:

The guys have returned from build trip number 2 and they ran into some issues. We'll be heading back to Wayne's shop one last time to finish the car up.

That's what we like to call a tease.
Is this in magazine time? Is it already running and being used somewhere?
No, we're pretty much getting the updates real time.
When the car does make it to Daytona and is taken to a local autocross for shakedown, please let me know where and when. I'll be there for sure.
Not a tease at all guys. As i've explained before updates are not in real time. So many photos are taken each day that its impossible to post them all in one day. Unless you would like very condensed, sporadic updates.
The issues are typical to car building. The guys got the car together only to discover things such as clutch and fuel tank problems, among more. It's almost there, just needs one more trip to Wayne's shop for final sorting.
jstein, i'll be happy to do that. We're focusing on getting the car finished correctly, then we'll bring it home and start playing with it. I'd guess that autocross will be its first stop .
I meant relative "real time" as opposed to the typical 3 month magazine lead time.
Looking forward to seeing it!

Oh ok no worries. The build thread is faster than magazine time, but slower than real time. Each place the story is told though, you'll get a bit different and more information!
In reply to jstein77:
A reference to the movie "Up!"... It's a harness instead of a collar, but it was the first thing that sprang to mind. pertinent scene

A Toyota Camry unit actually.
