Good afternoon all:
I've found what appears to be a nicely maintained Mercedes 500SL for $10.5K obo. I haven't done a mechanical inspection, nor will I until we get serious, but I'm wondering what peoples' experience are with them in terms of mechanical integrity and general durability.
This one is a Japanese import into Canada five years ago, and now has 87,000 km - it's interesting in that it's left hand drive, rather than set up for Japan. As I say, first appearances would seem to put it as a really well-maintained vehicle - no CarFax yet, either, but that will come when I'm more convinced this is a keeper.
I know it's really a German Thunderbird and will never win an autoslalom, but as a competent transcontinental mile-gobbler it has some large appeal. Our 1970 Merc 280SL burned in an autobody fire ten years ago, and it finally seems the right time to replace like for like.
What are your experiences with them?
Thanks in advance for your information, Dave
