I've posted piles of them in the Classifieds, for all the suck-vette haters. Not surprisingly, all the "If you can find me a $1k C4, I'll buy 10 of them" E36 M3-talkers talk E36 M3 because they are full of E36 M3.

EX:

$2k all day: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/wat/cto/3716471052.html

http://macon.craigslist.org/cto/3699011053.html

...and that's just complete rust-free atlanta cars. If they were pulling $3k, they'd be sold. I'm guessing 15 $100 bills and a good negotiator would grab any one of those.

In response to demand, weld in cages are now legal. The rules have been modified to reflect this. Weld away, ladies and gents!

Legal as in free towards budget? Weld in cages were always legal if you take that meaning at face value.

If they're free now... dislike.

I don't think I'll be going quicker than 11.50 so this rule doesn't really affect me, or many of the competitors with fixed-roof cars.

Now if you were to build an open-roof, petite car with some sort of powerplant swap. Well then this rule is a game changer.

I am not impressed at this last minute change, should have gone through next year with the intended? refurbish of the rules.

Not only because it screwed me either

It is a weird rule change and it is weird that the rules were already published and are now being revised, but I wouldn't say it's last minute with the challenge being 6 months away.

In my opinion, rule changes year to year aren't really a surprise...but you GRM folks would be doing the rest of us a favor if you could let us know if the rules are locked in or not. If you think of any other good rule changes, perhaps you can save them for next year.

If there are major rule changes coming for 2014 it would be nice to have an idea what the thoughts are. Some of us build very slowly. I would like to see a new topic started on proposed 2014 rules. Toss some ideas out there and let the firestorm begin. Lots of us are stake holders in this. Only $2k stake holders but stake holders none the less.

We are trying to keep the rules simple and as easy to follow as possible. The change was needed as we were getting a lot of questions and misunderstanding regarding the previous cage rule, as well as a handful of potential crapcan entries with weld in cages already installed. So we simplified them.

As far as next year, we are planning a re-write of the rules. That means suggestions need to be sent to us so we know what you want to see in the rules. All suggestions will be considered.

Troof! I would be really pissed if I was building a car and suddenly it isn't legal anymore.

I'm building one for $2014 as well . . . I'll just include everything in the budget and see how it all pans out.

It may not be the prettiest or fastest thing there . . . but it will be there and within budget.

We will work on getting $2014 rules started within plenty of time so you know. I'd imagine the fundamentals will remain the same with tweaks as we see fit.

"Plenty of time" expired as soon as you said "rewrite the rules". As you can see, there are a number of builds already underway for 2014. I believe that you owe it to the group to share your initial thoughts on 2014 now. Before we waste a lot of misdirected time an effort.

While I appreciate the power of a good preemptory tone as much as anyone, rules changes are a part of racing (just ask the many high-dollar F1 efforts that have been made obsolete over the years, to use the most negative example).

Unlike F1, we try hard to make this as fun, non-racy, and easy on our entrants as possible, and will continue to do so. At the end of the day, though, this is not a sanctioned race series, this is an editorial event that is also run as a fun thank-you to our readers. Should you demand a full-time staff of rules-makers, complete with the attendant appeals committee and all that other nonsense, I'd suggest this is probably not going to be a satisfactory venue for you.

However, if you are able to trust that we DO endeavor to make this as fun, reasonable, and low-impact to everyone as possible, then you'll find this will work out.

(And if you don't have time to read all of what I just wrote, here's the takeaway: We try very hard not to be dicks, and expect the same effort from our entrants. Thank you.)

I appreciate being referred to as a "dick". Thank you.

Please keep in mind that your event only exists because your readers are willing to spend time, money, and effort to create entries. "Fun" is still a lot of work. Winning isn't important but being eligible is.

I called you nothing, sir, and this isn't about internet name-calling, so don't even try to make it so. I do agree with you that being eligible is important, which is why we are simplifying the rules for next year and will be creating a process for input from past competitors. You will have at least a year's notice, as we plan to unveil complete, considered changes at the $2013 Challenge.
