So I got this rx8 rotary (13b Renesis) I'm putting into my 1976 fiat 124 and I need a bit of help with it. First off I need a cable throttle body, I'm not really finding anything, any one know of one? Alternatively I know all these 13b's have a lot of swappable parts but I'm doubting that applys here (maybe with an adapter?) Next, I'm not liking the plastic intake after the throttle body, does anybody make these? (not plastic)

Additionally I would like to know is there anymore smog stuff I can ditch? (race car, already took off air pump)

lastly, the engine I sourced came with 90% full wiring harness installed, one of the ends of that 10 percent is right here:

Does anyone know what that fourth bundle goes too? If its not related to running the enigne I dont care

Came here because the rotary forums are pretty empty when its comes to the rx8

I can't answer all of your questions, but I can answer a few.

For the throttle body, look for a Pro Formula Mazda throttle body. I think the pre-2004 Formula Mazda's were carburetted, but in 2004 or 2005 they came out with the Pro Formula Mazda which used the Renesis. They used an aftermarket ECU and had to have a cable throttle body. If you are using the stock wiring harness and ECU, could you find an RX8 throttle pedal and keep the DBW?

For emissions, I think it is mainly the air pump and cat, but I am sure someone will come along with more info.

I know there was a company that made an aluminum upper intake manifold, but I don't remember the name and I'm not sure they are still around. If you are staying NA there is no benefit other than looks, and even the aluminum version didn't look that great.

I don't know about the wiring harness, and not even sure where that section is on the car. Can you post a picture of the full harness so we can get a better idea where that might be located?

I am running a adaptronic ecu and tilton pedal box so I cant get the stock dbw, also I hate dbw so that is also a reason. So how would I go about finding formula race car parts?

I can't post a better picture as I am not home right now but I can tell you that is where the wiring harness plugs into the ecu, there are 5 ports on the ecu and I have 3 plugs and a cutoff So I gotta figure that out. That end of the wiring harness comes off to the left of the engine and goes into the box that holds the ecu

Okay update, I found formula mazda as you were talking about, didn't realize it was its own thing (thought you were talking about actual formula 1). Guess i gotta buy this one:http://starracecars.com/index.php?option=com_opencart&Itemid=&route=product/product&product_id=474&search=throttle+body

still gotta make sure its for the renesis though I call them up tommorow

Your best bet on sorting out the wiring is the factory service manual. Here's the electrical section:

and the rest of it is here:

A 96-04 mustang throttle body bolts to the rx8 manifold, not sure on how well the cable routing works with that though.

could you elaborate on which version of the mustang bolts to the rx8 manifold? 5.0, cobra, etc.

Your questions are way above my pay grade, I'll just comment that I love that motor in my RX-8, and I've never had any trouble with the plastic intake, even under somewhat abusive conditions.

Also, 4 bolts to remove the mid pipe, 20 minutes with a long screw driver and a hammer, and the cat was gone for good.  I think the accelerator pedal is the same wiring used in a miata of the same vintage, at least that's what it looked like(and the wires matched) when i installed my auto blip...
