If it's self propelled and has tires it's probably been drag raced at some point. Some people drag race mopeds of all things.

Snowmobiles are the crazy things.
I don't know what the do the skis or tracks to be pavement-happy but I've seen them running in the 14s.

Self propelled??
Nah! I'm the guy that did the 1/4 mile at Gainesville on a single speed tandem bicycle!!
While both my foxbodys were fun and faster then my marquis, one of my favorite nights at the dragstrip was hot lapping that car. Ran 15.6- 15.8 all day and never need any tuning changes. The faster you get the easier it is too hurt something.

They swap the skis out for small tires and run a flat rubber track without any of the lugs or studs, made specifically for pavement drag racing. And 14s are slooooooow. Most of the guys around here are in the 9s and they've gone as fast as 7.90s.
I've been to a Midnight Madness with my 1999 and yes, I was slow. On the plus side, I found another Miata there, so we raced each other A LOT. Kept beating him by around half a second so we switched cars. I still beat him.
Naturally aspirated 1.8 Miata gets around 16 seconds per 1/4 mile.
Going by my results at the challenge you can't be that slow. My 1993 Miata managed a 17.6. My turbo fiero parking lot build ran a 21.7 on the first run and died during the second run coasting to a 40.4.
I have a Nascar drag racing trophy. Won my class.
With a 50 hp car on a 1/8 strip. still took forever.
Years ago, the winner of the bracket racing series at our local strip drove a 33 second step van. It ran the same time, every time, regardless of lane choice or ambient conditions.

Of course not. I never said it was stock. I said it was a stock motor (as in, not a built motor). Stock bottom end, stock pistons, stock cam, stock heads, stock cooling, stock oiling. Never been opened.
A 200K motor with 22 psi being pushed through it is a reasonable accomplishment too.

And this is why SCCA autocross classing rules suck.
Never have. Some questions are better left unanswered. Examples: "Do bunions hurt?", "How many donuts I can eat before I yack?" and "I wonder what quarter-mile e.t. my Miata will run?".
If you had fun, that's all that matters.
A local friend of mine owns this Miata that was built cheap with ebay parts and homebrew fab 7-8 years ago on a 250k+ engine and has been fast ever since.

If you want a fast Miata, it's certainly possible. I think the main thing is not to put all your faith in the Miata community in particular when it comes to boost. They seem to be stuck on tiny turbos for some reason. You'll notice that the better people to listen to are the ones who can make ANYTHING fast. Whatever the conventional wisdom is in the Miata community, it hasn't seemed to produce a lot of great-performing turbo cars.

I do not disagree that it is quite an accomplishment, but saying "stock motor" in your first post and leaving out "turbo" means incomplete if not downright incorrect info.
If only there was a 90 degree turn in the middle of the drag strip, then I'd think about dragging my miata. At least with a sharp turn halfway through is stand a chance.
I've kicked the idea around, but I'm clueless when it comes to convertibles and drag racing rules even for test n tune days let alone an actual event. As much as I love the car, it's given me nothing but headaches when it comes to classing and rulebooks without a hard top.
Some lawyer should draw up a waiver, like "I'm aware I can die, just let me have fun myself" particularly if I'm the only one on "course" at the time.

Another Cincinnati guy?
If you see a guy in glasses rolling around in a green NB with a Grm sticker on the drivers door window, that's me.

Let me help you since I'm a big expert now. Bring a helmet and wear your big boy pants. That's it, you don't need a hard top.

Yes, I only saw one other person on I71 who I knew was on this forum. It was some dude driving a black neon. I think it may have been Eastsidemav. He had a GRM bumper sticker so I honked and pm'd him later. Are you in the Miata club? I joined not long ago and so far I've been to one meeting. Glad to know you.

Nope! Not in the club. To be honest, I didn't know one still exists.
I have every intention of taking the Abarth to Kil Kare in Xenia for a Test n Tune, for E36 M3s and many giggles.
I have drag raced many things. The most fun was my very first car, an 81 Camaro with a swapped -in- 305.
It was slow. Really really slow. I still remember it ran 17.45 because it ran that all day. It was my first time ever drag racing. I lined up against another second gen F body dialed in at like a 13.45 and I watched him never get close to me in the mirror, dove on the brakes and easily won the first round. I treed him by like a lot.
Second round was a new and quick F body, maybe low 12 second dial in. About half track he comes roaring by me like it's not even reasonable and I look and my win light is on. He red lit by a ton. Later in the pit, he came over and told me that something just seemed wrong and that I was getting way too far out there. A five second head start will do that I guess.
After that round I noticed a lot of noise. I was coming up the return road and there were the gamblers (a 100% African American, 100% obese, 100% sweatpants group who always bet lots and lots of money on everything) waving cash at me and cheering. Apparently they liked my car.
The third round was a brain fart and it stalled while I was attempting my stupid dry hop that I never should have even tried to do, and it never cleared it's throat, and the 18 year old driver was flustered, red lit, and then the car was a half second off pace anyway.
I've drag raced my old full sized truck, the Volvo, the Tunachucker LTD, and best of all, my old bicycle. Same track as the Camaro, we called it the dump for a reason. Oil downs could last hours as the two dudes with shovels and brooms were not even that motivated. The oildown was at the top end, so a buddy and I went and staged our bikes. Bear in mind I'm 13 here, and my bike has one speed. Anyway the tower brought the tree down and we raced. I made the gambler dudes money on that one, too.
Anyway, good job bringing the Miata out. Drag racing is one of the easiest ways into motorsports, and while often derided, is a safe and legal way to have fun, and brackets make any car, truck, van, or whatever competitive. As you can see by my vivid memories from decades ago, it's a big deal.
Have fun!
That reminds me, I need to see how fast the Honda is.
