My take: Scion FRS, 6 speed, only upgrade was the touch screen stereo, otherwise it's as pure a drivers car as they come. I got to ride around for an hour this afternoon. It has a great note, not as raspy or harsh as say a Subaru 2.5 RS, very similar power delivery, tail happy even with the stability control on and sport mode off. Suspension is very taught but not harsh, actually has quite good road manners. It corners very flat, with only a tiny amount of body roll and we were cooking through the corners. The shifter moves less than 2 inches per throw, it's silly. Really it's quite an impressive car for the money. Outside it looks small, but not Miata small, but at the same time it's not bloated, it also has quite a bit of width to it (more than the NC). The styling is excellent from all angles, there aren't any boring or dull spots where you wishe'd they done more, it almost feels Italian and $$$ to look at. Also, the engine layout and packaging was thought out in advance with quite a bit of forethought to maintenance so everything is accessible. The only thing we noted was the lack of space for a turbo, though a battery relocate could fix that. Also, a supercharger would make a lot of functional space packaging sense on this car, I'm sure we'll see both as time goes on. The car also still has ride height to it, not goofy but it could take wider tires and be dropped some, but given how low it already is yet still functional (we went over speed bumps and speed tables with 3 people and never touched or rubbed) I wouldn't change a thing...
Inside the front seats are basically factory provided race seats with ridiculous amounts of bolster. The backseat is useless, we rode with 3 people, the person in the back seat just laid across, with the seats kinda pulled forward adult feet will not fit under the back of the seat they're that low. You can also tell the designers knew they were insurance seats so the back padding you can feel the stringers with barely any pressure. It's really more of a door accessway to the trunk, but when down, you have a ton of space, not quite Mazda 3 but quite a lot. Oh and the buttons (or lack thereof) and the engineering of the interior is simply amazing, it's like Toyota and Subaru had people who cared how well the car functioned AND looked. It's got nearly no buttons, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have all the features, cruise, A/C, power windows, locks, stability control, sport mode, etc. but you don't notice them in the car because the interior layout is so clean and neat. Everything is in the right spot and some of it is Toyota familiar, some Subaru familiar, but it all makes sense...
One more thing I forgot to mention, you can kinda see it in the pic, there's an emblem just forward of the A-pillar on the upper right corner of the front fender on both sides, the badge says, and I E36 M3 you not: 86
He'll be bringing it to Caffeine and Octane in 2 weeks...
