So have a new Bronco I am picking up at the end of August.

What is the firrst thing I should modify?

1.  Bumpers and skid plates (something clean and smooth, might do a hidden winch later)

2.  Tires and wheels (thinking Icons with Mickey Thompson Baja ATs)

3.  Something else.

Current configuration is 2.3L, Auto, 4dr, 4.27 w/rear lockers, tow, aux switches, cloth interior, mid-package, Ford 360.

What you got GRM?

It's Ford safety driver aid package.  SWMBO did a number trying to pole dance the CR-V against a parking garage pylon and didn't want a repeat.

As weird as we are here I actually wouldn't change a thing based on your specs for a while.  Drive it, enjoy it, eventually it will speak to you about what it needs.

already planning on it, but the engine with trouble in the Bronco is the 2.7.  The 2.3 has been an anville for a while.

Yeah, I like the specs.   Sans-squatch but still got lockers in the back should make it more than capable for what I am comfortable putting a $44k rig through.

Sell the soccer mom limo for profit.

Buy a real Bronco (hint - they have 2 doors).

Put at least a V6 in it. 4 cylinders are for front wheel drive Hondas.

Get the Sasquatch package. Lift, lockers, gears, wheels, tires, and skidplates included.

Order it now - that way it might show up by late 2024. Maybe.

Just kidding about all that. Well, kinda.

Need to, no.  But according to some the entire rig is all wrong. wink

Things I don't like about it:

Bumpers-  These are plastic.  Ford has a new one called a Capable Bumper, if I can't find what I like after market I will just swap for one of those.

Skid plates-factory is plastic or steel and I will go aluminum.
Wheels-beauty is in the eyes of the beer holder.  These were the best wheels IMHO in the entire lineup.  Still mediocre to me.  So those will change eventually.
Tires-let's face facts.  Wasting the gas on spinning LT weight tires on a DD Bronco/Jeep is just group think stupidity.  It's a rock crawl focus when 99.99% of the time the tires will never see a situation they need them.  Leave those heavy things for your specialized rig you don't mind bashing into trees and don't have to feed and live with day to day.  Mickey Thompson has some 33" Baja lightweights (only ~4 lbs more than stock 32" Generals vs the 20 lbs more for 33" KO2s) that will give me the stance I am looking for and the the tread to bite down in the looser stuff.  I did a similar trick on my TJ with some Walmart only Good Year Wranglers and it rode and drove great.  Did fine off-road too.

Down the road stuff:  Suspension - I want a more high speed suspension.  Bilstein has an interesting competitor to the currently available Fox set up.  More progressive.  I want to see how that turns out.

Power- the stock 2.3l 300hp/325ftlbs is more powerful than any previous generation Bronco has ever had.  (The Church of the Turbo with Direct Injection has blessed us.  Amen!)(Yes I know how to watch for carbon build up.) Sure it doesn't have the mod head room, but I haven't seen a previous Gen Bronco get 20 mpg either.  The 2.3 is a common engine and hasn't had the valve drop issues the 2.7 refresh has.  So I think it will be fine.  Brakes-should be fine.  I didn't see Ford modify the brakes for the Raptor version so it should be good to go.

In the end, I just need to prioritize what's first to upgrade...I have plans for this Bronco to go places few have ever been.

EDIT:  Ok, I forgot about the Everglades wheels.  Those are the best in lineup.   The Big Bend is 2nd.  Sasquatch is worst.

LS swap.  Seriously, I really like these new Broncos and wish you all kinds of luck, but Ferd should scare you with their position as recall leaders.  According to the internet, these things are popping like crazy.  So, wait for junk, move to non-smog area, then LS swap.

In reply to rustomatic :   The new 2.7 is dropping valves.  There is zero reports of issues with the 2.3.
